I have a scan in 2 weeks and typically my appt is on a work day. I am 10wks pg at the moment and wanted to know - will I get paid for taking time off? Do I have to hand my Matb1 in first? which I will get at 24 weeks.(had ds 3.5 yrs ago and can't remember a thing lol!)

Hmm, I think you should automatically get time off for Docs appointments, and technically you don't even have to tell them you are pg until 26wks or something, so Matb1 should have anything to do with it.

But I work for the civil service and it's a bit of a different world to other jobs!

Will have to ask my boss I guess. I have told them I am pg as my job is very physical and I was feeling sick some mornings too. I know you should get paid, but just can't remember when from!

Bumperlicious is right. As you have already told them, they should pay you for any appointments you have scheduled from when you told them. Your MATB1 is all about telling them when your EWC is so that you and they can plan your leave etc.

Depending on company policy you may get paid if off sick - it should come under your normal sick policy, and they should also ensure that they record it seperately from any other absences you have had.

No, you are entitled to paid time off for all medical appts, you might be asked to provide evidence of the appointment, but not of the pregnancy. Remember you don't have to inform your employer you are pregnant til around 24 weeks!

It sometimes seems like a bit of a conundrum - how can you ensure you get your appointment time off paid, if you haven't told them you are pg?? especially if your employer pays you hourly, or not for health care appointments - it is not a statutory entitlement??

Bumperlicious · 05/07/2008 17:45

I don't know happy, I am allowed time off (within reason)for any medical appointments, but I'm sure not everyone has that luxury.

Also, I'm pretty sure that any time off sick because you're pregnant (morning sickness etc) is paid, whether you're normally paid sick leave or not. It's recorded separately to your normal sick leave and they can't use it to discipline you (if you work somewhere that only allows you limited time off sick).

I've been through this recently. You are legally entitled to paid time off for antenatal appointments. Since you've already told your employer that you're pg, shouldn't be a problem.

Like bumperlicious, I work for an organisation with it's roots in the civil service, and we get time off to go the to pg pilates class at the sports centre up the road!

Yes, you are entitled to paid time off for ante-natal appointments - your employer can ask to see proof of the appointment (card etc) but not your MatB1. As you know you don't get that until you are about 24 weeks - that is required to organise your maternity leave by confirming your EDD.

Sorry I haven't been back but having internet connection problems. Been to work today and checked that I do get paid for appts, just have to enter it on the pay system as antenatal paid.
