sleeping on my front at 26 weeks

I realise this may be a bit dumb, but before pregnancy i always slept on my front. I am trying really hard to sleep on my side but i keep waking up in the night having rolled onto my front. At this stage i have quite a sizeable bump and i didn't think it would be possible to sleep like this, but i seem to be managing it. I currently sleep clutching a pillow in the hope that this will stop me from rolling over, but it doesn't seem to work.

I am worried that i am harming the baby and feel really guilty about it. does anyone else have any experince of this or have any tips for preventing myself from rolling over?

I was worried about this too!
I'm now 29 weeks and can still sleep on my front.

So I read in one of my books its fine, baby is well cushioned in there. I'ts sleeping on your back thats not so good.

Hi Ksal. I had this problem with my first pregnacy as I am a tummy sleeper, and always have been. I don't use a pillow either and can not sleep on my back!

I slept on my tummy until it became too uncomfortable, which was about 28 weeks. At that point I bought one of these which was brilliant as it held up my bump yet I still had the sensation of being on my belly, even though I was really on my side.

I'm 5 wks pregnant now and will be dusting it off for this one too!

thanks guys - its good to get some reassurance and know that other people have had the same issue - people i have spoken to in real life just haven't had this particular problem

I will definitely check out that pillow auntyspan!

As an aside, what do you do with your arm when you sleep on your side? I am 33 weeks pregnant, always used to sleep on my front, now sleeping on my side but keep on waking up with an uncomfortable squashed arm! any thoughts ... ?

KSal · 02/07/2008 16:53

I've been hugging a pillow, which seems to solve the extra arm problem while i fall asleep.... but then some time after i've fallen asleep i ditch the pillow and roll onto my front again!

am a tummy sleeper too! Was really worried about it with Ds but just ended up on side as had to, still tummying with no.2 at 21 weeks.
I put bent arm under pillow and try to lie on hand more than upper arm, Cant sleep on back feel bit dizzy and peculiar.

I am a real tummy sleeper too and when i became pg, my first Q to the midwife was "oh no, i sleep on my tummy - what do i do?!" and she said that im fine, there'll become a point when i'll become too big to do it but till then go for it!

Noted and well used

I'm 31 weeks and have only just stopped laying on my stomach (it's too uncomfortable now). The MW's have said there is no problem with sleeping on your stomach.
