paranoid - slapped cheek

Hi there. Me again...
From a blood test at the beginning of my pregnancy (I'm nearly 23 weeks now) I know that I'm not immune to slapped cheek. Now the issue is that I've got to go into a (secondary) school on Wednesday to perform a play I've been working on with a group of my students. I've heard that slapped cheek outbreaks are very common around this time of year and in children aged 5 to 15 (although some say 6 to 10, some say 4 to 10). I'm going to ring up the school and ask if they've had cases - if they haven't does it mean it's OK to go? I do know a bit about slapped cheek, but not really how you get it - just by being in the same room, or do you need close contact? Can you get it from loos? TIA for any info .

I think the big problem with slapped cheek is that the sufferer is infectious before there are any symptoms.

I don't know how contagious it is. My DD caught it at nursery school, but none of the rest of us ended up with any symptoms. Of course, DH and I could well have been immune from childhood, but you'd have thought that the other three kids would have caught it from her.

I thought it was more common in nursery/primary aged kids as most will get exposed and become immune to it by secondary age - could be wrong though. Think it is quite contagious ie air borne.

Lockets, that's German healthcare for you - terribly terribly thorough. They offered me the test for that and toxoplasmosis in one fell swoop for an extra charge - I was more interested in the toxo really, but it was both tests for the same price so I had them both done. (Rubella and blood group they did normally on insurance). Not immune to toxo either...

We're performing in front of 13-16-year-olds. I shouldn't be really getting close to any of the kids as we'll be 'up front' and they'll be 'in the audience'.
