How much does your baby move at 39 weeks? Seems to be sleeping a lot.

I know I can go to my MW if I'm not sure. I know baby moves less at 39 weeks due to restricted space but I just wanted people's experiences.

Am 39 weeks today. Movements have significantly lessened over the last couple of weeks.

Got scared last night so drank big glass of very cold water and prodded tummy. Baby moved. Phew.

Also got long suffering husband to put ear on tummy to hear heartbeat. Double phew.

Baby used to move loads each day but now hardly at all.

Is this normal?

The amount of movements does lessen and it's a good sign that you can wake your lo up when you get a bit worried.

You are supposed to feel so many movements in so many hours - but I can't remember what the numbers are

If you are ever worried, don't hesitate in contacting your mw.

if you are unsure and worried go to your midwife. cant stress this enough - will in all probability all be fine, but I am very close to a situation where it wasnt. (not wanting to scare you, as i say, chances are very much that all is well.)Listen to your instincts, there is no need to sit there worrying.

I'm also 39 weeks and my baby's movements have decreased aswell. I have been doing the prodding motion, but the little darling seems to be sqwirming when I'm trying to get to sleep.

I think we're meant to feel 10 movements in a 24 hour period, but call MW if your worried or go to local maternity unit so that they can monitor your baby's heart beat, at least it will put your mind at rest.

Yeah. I knew you'd all say that so rang almost the minute I posted.

Phoned MW. She said go straight to hospital.

Baby started moving as soon as they put the monitor on. Heart rate too high though according to MW.

Doctor came in and said he'd get consultant. Consultant said everything was fine and I should go home but do a 'kick chart' and come back if less than 10 between 9am and 6pm.

MW not happy so she gets second consultant's opinion who also says all fine but I need to go back tomorrow to be remonitored.

Aargh. Thought they'd just tell me not to worry. No wonder heart rate is high, what with all the doctors and monitors etc.

All a bit scary. Being a mum involves lots of worrying.

I'm at 40+4 and for the past two weeks DS has been doing tai chi in my tum instead of pulling the Saturday Night Fever disco moves that he had prior to then
