.....but they all seem a little babyish for her.

I have a couple of books from when I was expecting DS which were perfect for her when she was 2 and will now be perfect for DS but I am struggling to find one age appropriate for DD.

Any advice/suggestions?

I have a large book called 'What's inside your tummy Mummy' by Abby Cocovini. Lovely and age appropriate. other books on this link are great too!!

My two (4.5 and 2.10) love the Babette Cole one 'Mummy laid an egg' and think it is hilariously funny. It does teach them about the facts of life too in a very gentle way. I've also got the one twelvelegs recommends and would also recommend it.

I bought "Where Willy Went" and "Mummy Laid an Egg" for my daughter. I rather liked them both but I think "Where Willy Went" gave a better explanation of what was going on. They made it SOO much easier than trying to do it on my own - as I would have come at it at a far too technical level (and DH would have been 100x worse)

I like the look of that one LittleLapin. Are you an Usborne Book rep? Can I buy one off you?

Apparently the "Mummy laid an egg" is the best one, i bought my son (7 and a half) one called "Let's talk about where babies come from" and it's aimed at age 6-9yr olds - well, it was TMI for him!!! It talked about masturbation, ok touching and not ok touching, gay love, non gay love, sex etc etc. it's VERY informative and a great book but didn't actually answer the question he asked (note: before you buy a book, check what EXACTLY she wants to know! she may be happy with "daddy gave mummy a seed") there are some good links on google too.

My son would cope with the content of the "lets talk..." book BUT i didn't want 20 irate mother's on the phone from his class because my son had told them all about masturbation and sex!!!

We had [[http://www.amazon.co.uk/Theres-House-Inside-Orchard-Picturebooks/dp/1841210684/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8& s=books&qid=1214916349&sr=8-1 this one] when I was pregnant with DD for my four year old DS. I didn't think it was too babyish.
We had another one that dealt with the realities of a new baby....the crying, the pooing, the amount of attention they need, but it was a bit too realistic iykwim and it was kind of putting him off the idea, but at least he was prepared for the realities of life with a new baby

lackaDAISYcal · 01/07/2008 13:49

oops, this one

Bodkin · 01/07/2008 13:54

My DD1 loved this one after the birth of her little sis - I guess at 5 your DD might be a bit old for it, but my DD still loves it now at 4.5...

Your local library should have a good selection of books on the subject too...

Bodkin · 01/07/2008 13:56

sorry, just realised I've linked you to amazon.com... I'm sure it's available in the UK too!

McDreamy, my ds was 5 when dd2 was born 4 weeks ago and he really liked the Topsy and Tim new baby book. We still had the There's a House inside your Tummy and he liked it too. Mummy Laid an Egg was a bit too explicit for me

McDreamy · 01/07/2008 14:11

I think she would get more out of a book that described the baby's development during pregnancy and what it is like to have a new baby in the house. I am sure she will have some questions about conception but I am fairly confident they will be simple questions requiring very simple answers IYSWIM
