Has anyone seen a backpack changing bag that actually looks quite nice?

Really don't want a shoulder bag but seems like all the nicer design and textiles have gone into those. Can anyone help me find a backpack with changemat that isn't like something my dad used to wear please?

Just get a "normal" backpack and a travel change mat to bung in.

You are asking for the impossible! I too have been on the eternal quest that is the 'perfect changing bag'.

Good luck

Buckets · 30/06/2008 14:09

MamaG, think you may have solved the problem!

I have a normal back pack with a travel change mat and it works well. Because it is a normal day sac the shoulder padding etc is much better than you get on a changing rucksac.

Hello Buckets have a look on happybags (.co.uk I think)
but if you're using a sling it is tricky to have a backpack on as well - I always slung mine over the buggy

Skiphop do v nice changing mats

If you are feeling extravagant, take a look at www.johnlewis.com

caboodle?

Or have a look at the kipling changing bag.

Buckets · 30/06/2008 18:25

Oh I thought a backpack would be just right with a sling. Obviously a cross-body one-strap one wouldn't but I figured shoulder straps wouldn't get in the way.

i bought a samsonite one from ebay which was £15, it looks like a ladybug - but it has about 3million pockets and i know, having had 2 kids already, that all i need is a travel changing mat, a messy bag and a bottle carrier!! I'm sure i can get a nice jane norman bag to fit all of those in!!

silvermum · 30/06/2008 18:55

i think specialised baby changing bags are a bit overrated (and over priced.)All you really need is any sizeable bag with a few pockets. the rest is a gimmick. i spent quite a lot of money on a bugaboo changing bag and though it looks nice and can fit loads of stuff i hardly ever ended up using it...was usually much easier to throw everything into one of those environmentally friendly canvas shopping carriers!

Pontypine · 01/07/2008 13:41

I nice backpack from a sports shop (about £10) or a nice oversized handbag is FINE as long as you have a travel changing mat (about £5) and a messy bag! the only thing changing bags off as such is a waterproof lining and eleasticated bits for holding bottles.

Hi - I saw this one in the NCT catalogue today which I thought looked pretty clever. Although being pregnant with no 1 at the moment I have no idea what you really need!!

Oops - sorry, just noticed your comment about shoulder bags

tassisssss · 01/07/2008 14:21

Like MamaG I'd just buy a bag that I liked and bung in nappies and wipes (and maybe a travel change mat if I remember!).

Means you have the perfect excuse to buy several because you can use them for years and years!

cmotdibbler · 01/07/2008 14:23

A backpack works great with a front carry sling - in fact it balances out really well. When they graduate to a back carry, you have to do a long cross body shoulder strap though.

I have a Mommy Kecci bag which does both backpack and shoulder strap - and is gorgeous.

PetitFilou1 · 01/07/2008 14:42

Chocorange that is really just a portable changing mat but they are very good and useful and I've just bought another one for ds2 as my old one wore out! So you're ok you do know what you're doing even though this is 'just' no1!

Twinkie1 · 01/07/2008 14:51

Buy a Cath Kidson one - they are lovely - you can get a rucksack version I think - or just buy the rucksack and a changing mat!

daisy26 · 01/07/2008 17:03

I brought a mammas n pappas simple changebag from a carboot sale for 2pounds hehe, they can be quite useful for some baby stuff

Buckets · 01/07/2008 17:24

Has anyone noticed there are just far too many zips on these things? You really need something you can just wriggle your hand in and get your keys/purse/whatever whilst swinging it off one shoulder (or even better while still on your back) - most of them seem to require setting the bag down on a table, flipping a lid and unzipping.

JuJuBe do two backpack changing bags in loads of colours/patterns e.g. [http://www.thatcuteage.com/4-Out-About/c94p1-Changing-Bags/p1434-Ju-Ju-Be-PackaBe-Blue-Bouquet this one]] or this one if you still want a 'proper' changing bag. Or you could get a healthy back back & stick a changing mat etc in it, they do a lot of colours & diff.fabrics (try ebags.co.uk)
