when I had my three c-sections - they gave you a local anaesthetic and then the epidural so i felt a little sting for that and then the only part i felt with the epidural was a warm sensation spreading through my lower body.

I am the biggest wuss when it comes to needles and so it was a big deal for me to have it but it was fine.

I'm having one in 3 months. Eidsvold, does the catheter hurt? What did it feel like during the operation? I heard people say they can distantly feel the rumbling around in the abdomen, like someone washing dishes [hmmm]

had my csec and i was v. scared as was doing it alone and they were lovely, held my hand and chatted to me while it was done, the local stung going in and made me jump slightly but wasnt a problem and the epidural felt like a warm wet sensation going down one leg then the other, its not painful like actually giving birth! so worth it! it is an odd experience though, i could feel my legs there but couldnt if you see what i mean, could feel slight tugging and stuff but obviously didnt hurt or feel uncomfortable the baby was out within 4 minutes and the rest of the time is being stitched back! You can feel the catheter go in but it doesnt hurt or feel uncomfortable (i suppose theyve had lots of practice!) as it was done after the epidural.

having given birth to my dd naturally with no pain relief and had ec for ds i can honestly say i preferred the ec! yup shame on me i was glad to not have to go through the agony though i think a breech birth would have nearly killed me!, i did have an ecv to try turn him as i wanted to be in and out same day as needed to be at home to care for dd but it didn't work and i can honestly say that was without a shadow of a doubt the most agony i have ever been in in my entire life!

Take peppermint teabags and a small hotwater bottle, you'll have bad tummy ache and trapped wind from all the rummaging and the warm really helps!

I have had one natural and 2 c sections and am having my 3rd section on 4th July.

The C sections were fine, a lovely warm feeling when the epidural goes in.

It was lovely how quick the baby was out, they take a bit longer to close everything up but by that point you have your beautiful baby so you're not bothered about that.

I get a bit shaky after but then had dh on hand to take over holding bub when I got too shaky to do it but again that doesn't last.

All in all my sections have been so much more a pleasant experience than my natural birth.

Good luck and don't worry the excitement of knowing your baby will soon be in your arms cancels out any anxiety once you get to the theatre.
