...losing my green notes!!!

She seemed to think I'd done it on purpose!

I wonder why she did react like that to you....

1dilemma · 29/06/2008 01:28

You'll find them

Probably when you get home with db

Oh what a mountain out of a molehill. I never lost mine, but you'd never know it. I'm not sure anyone ever looked at them EVER. And I didn't see the same midwife twice EVER during my first pregnancy and labor (all 40 hours of it) and the first 20 weeks of my second pregnancy. At that point I went on strike and started refusing to do all sorts of things. got myself under the care of head midwife of natural birth floor at hospital and for the very first time someone actually looked at my notes (which were so completely inaccurate it was a total waste of time anyway).

Don't know why midwife thinks it's productive to harass a pregnant woman about her notes. Just ignore and continue to be pregnant as if nothing had ever happened...;).

Given how many of my blood samples/results the hospital have lost, I'm hanging onto my notes for dear life!

I have a scanner at home so I've scanned in most of the pages in case I lose the book. I was an expert at losing everything before I got pregnancy-marshmallow-brain, so everything is on the computer somewhere and a search will find it eventually!

WhipMeIndiana · 29/06/2008 19:30

ha! dh wondered loudly to himself about why we hadn't thought to scan them into the pc - great tip for any new mommas-to-be about

you have just made me think that i should be making copies of everything in my notes in case they go missing, i too suffer from pregnancy head but im sure there must have been cases of stolen bags etc out of peoples control where notes could not be found.
On another point i get really fed up of hearing of midwives and other medical professionals treating pregnant women like this. Ive been quite lucky generally, although i did have a sonographer (is that the right word) who pretty much insisted id imagined a cyst on my right ovary even though three other medical professionals had previously seen it, because she couldnt find it. I didnt mind that she couldnt find it as i know the pregnant body can be a funny thing, it was her attitude that really stunk.
Anyway my point is pregnancy is often a very stressful, tiring and emotional time, it is not a time for you to be told off or treated like a naughty child. And i dont accept the maybe they were having an off day excuse. We all have off days but when you are in a position of responsibility you learn not to take it out on people in your care.
sorry rant over! I have had many wonderful midwives, docs etc over the years so not a personal attack if any listening, just trying to defend the vunerable pregnant woman!

onepieceoflollipop · 29/06/2008 20:41

These things happen - I am sure that if the worst happens and you are ready to give birth before the notes turn up they will "let you" give birth! Imagine the scenario "ooh sorry Mrs WMI, until you stop messing about and find your notes you will just have to hold on and keep your legs crossed!"

Excitable · 30/06/2008 13:04

Very sensible onepiece - this baby is coming, notes or no notes and they will have to deal with that.

Next time you see her, tell her off for being an officious, unfeeling cow - that's much worse in my book.

Well really.....

As a longterm patient of the hospital in which ds was born the result of me having to look after the notes instead of the hospital meant that they were actually there at the appointments instead of lost somewhere. My consultant had actually started a short card system which the patient kept which had all vital results on so that when (not if) the notes failed to turn up he'd still have something.

The point is that most women even with pregnancy brain are more capable of producing their notes than the hospital is.

Anyway they have a back-up system of the details on computer. The parts missing are records of what will have been said in appointments which they don't care about anyway (since it's not like they'll record we refused to listen to the patient and then harrassed her!!!).

When she next complains ask her about the back-up system and then ask how often notes in other depts go missing.

WhipMeIndiana · 30/06/2008 15:12

thanks reban - pg women do need defending not telling off.

they stillhavent reappeared - I reckon my mum threw them away in error. Im seeing the consultant on friday, wonder if she will mention it!

lol, lollipop

that is the attitude she took....I was feeling a bit biblical, ie. being put in my place for 'lying with a man'!!!!!!

I did much better in my second pregnancy when i all of a sudden realized that I could tell them what I wanted instead of them telling what I couldn't have because had the wrong post code. Amazing what you can get when you flat out refuse to do what they are telling you to do.

WhipMeIndiana · 02/07/2008 19:50

a bit of gritting your teeth gets you far!!! I am ready to fight for my section on fri but Im sure it wont come to that as I have valid reasons and they said from the start I could go either way...
