I've suffered from thrush on and off througout the last few months of this preg (am now 36wks) and I know thick discharge is a symptom. However I have suddenly had large amonunts of thick, slightly green 'blobs' of discharge this week. I went to the doctor to get a swab (results next week) to check if it is thrush still or another infection but when I described it to my midwife, she suggested it might be a show even though there's no red in it. Has anyone had experience of this. What should a show look like? I don't remember having one with my last pregnancy. REALLY REALLY sorry this is so horrible and graphic but am assuming/hoping only those with a strong stomach will click on the thread!!
Thanks

butterfly - is there a nasty smell (TMI again!)... it's just that a show should be clear or streaked with blood, mucousy and not smelly. A smelly discharge could indicate an infection.

Butterflygirl7 · 27/06/2008 15:10

There's no nasty smell and it has been mucousy. Does a show just happen once or can it be in separate 'episodes'? Sorry-being a bit ignorant here.

A show does not necessarily come out in one bit. See it as the mucousy "plug" in the neck of the cervix so when the cervix starts to dilate, it starts to come away. So, it could come in a few bits...any other symptoms of labour at all?

Butterflygirl7 · 27/06/2008 15:27

No other signs of labour so think I may have to resign myself to it being another case of the dreaded thrush.

At 30 weeks I had a 50p piece sized blob of clear jelly. Was accompanied by very frequent BH contractions, and my doctor thought it could be a show, and advised me to go to the hospital to get it checked out. I always thought a show would be bloody, but apparently not. I went, and they monitored me and did an internal, and everything was fine, but felt much better to be checked out.

If I were you I'd try to get someone to check you over - better safe than sorry.

My show was green, in fact it was very much like snot (bit grim I know), and if I recall correctly, I had a few bits over a few days before a huge lump which was slightly blood streaked (but still green ) coming out a day or two before labour started. So maybe you are getting close

My friend had a show I think about 2 weeks before her baby was born.
I'd get to the m/w or hospital to check though.

I had a show at around 36 weeks and had a bloody show at 39+3, ds2 was born the next day.

Butterflygirl7 · 27/06/2008 15:48

Thanks Mindalina-that's helpful as it really is like snot! Better get myself prepared asap.....
