Bleed - dr checked by having me cough?

I noticed pink water in the toilet this morning, after a BM, I’m 14+4. Visited the EPU and wasn’t able to have a scan, but the doctor examined me. I got quite emotional when they said they’d do an internal scan, so instead he checked by having me lie as if having a smear test and then coughing - they’re not worried. I’m now worried they’ve missed something and I should’ve just gone for the internal. Has anyone else experienced this?

Bleeding in pregnancy is so much more common than most ftm think. In tv and films, any blood is always bad news.
Was it just pink wee? No actual spotting. Keep an eye and go back if you are worried.

I had full gushes so a few days and then weeks of spotting and everything was fine. I had the internal and, quite frankly, it was awful. They said I had cervical erosion or something. No bleeds in next 2 pregnancies though.

Did they give a reason to you? Also tmi, but any chance you'd had sex and a tiny tear or something?

I had a bleed at 14 weeks and went to the maternity assessment unit. They checked everything was ok by doing a bedside ultrasound which confirmed baby was doing fine and also an internal examination to make sure my cervix was still closed. That's all that was needed to ensure I wasn't actively miscarrying.

Did they use a doppler or anything? I don't think the internal scan was vital but they should have confirmed baby was ok and that you weren't miscarrying.

Thanks for the replies x

Yes, just pink water, no spotting then or since. In the end I decided to ask for the internal and they said it looked like some scratching (for want of the actual word - atrophy?) or could be from a BM. They weren’t able to give me a scan with it being the weekend but I’m seeing the consultant on Wednesday so will ask then.
No sex, the water was just pink, and no more since thankfully. This is my third pregnancy (my second was an early miscarriage) I had no bleeding for my first and can see now that I was really lucky to have a smooth first pregnancy - experiencing it all very differently this time

Im not sure what you mean by not able to scan but then internal scan? Did you mean internal exam instead?
I hope you can get some reassurance maybe tomorrow, I’m shocked that EPU don’t have scanning facilities over the weekend. Rest up and take care of yourself. Lots of women do have little bleeds in otherwise healthy pregnancies but it’s such a worry at the time.

Sorry, yes internal exam, not scan! I think it’s a staffing issue at my local hospital, they perhaps would’ve referred me elsewhere if they were worried. Thank you, I’m feeling a little better after hearing how common it can be - wish there was an easier way to know they’re OK in there! X
