How did your third and subsequent labours compare after a quick second birth?

For context me first baby came in just under 11 hours. With a slightly extended early labour the day before and my back waters had gone. Baby 2 however, my waters spontaneously broke at 1.15am and she was born at 3.08am with only 2 pushes. It was very much a whirlwind. I’m hoping for some idea of how people’s subsequent births went.

5 hours with first
2 hours with second
30 mins with third. (Midwives didnt arrive in time)
If I have a fourth I'd probably just sneeze and out the baby would pop🙈

Saying that I have known women to have very fast labour's with 1 and 2 and then a longer labour with their 3rd so its not always quicker the more births.

Based on time arriving at the hospital as I can’t remember what time contractions started:
Baby 1 - 7 hours
Baby 2 - 2 and half hours
Baby 3 - 2 and half hours

sunshineandrain82 · 07/08/2026 09:57

30 mins first
Under 30 mins second.
My third… well I went from feeling my first contraction to pushing on my bathroom floor in 6 mins. The total time it took my mum to get to me.

my 4th as my quick labours have led to some serious complications. It was recommended to have a C-section.

This is what I’m worried about 😂 there’s a new birthing suite close to my home but it has no doctors so our usual hospital is a 30 minute drive and I’m worried we won’t get there

Wow! That is super quick. I mean I won’t be complaining if it’s done quicker haha but that’s insanely quick.

First 18 hours with 4.5 hours of pushing
Second 1 hour, one/two pushes didn't make it to hospital
Third under an1 hour, was already at the hospital for a routine appointment

Gardenisablooming · 07/08/2026 13:37

2, 3 and 4 in under 3 hours..
Dc 6 in less than 2.

Washingforweeks · 07/08/2026 13:43

My 3rd was the worst one for me. Longer labour more help needed. Not quite sure what happened 🤣

Peanut91 · 07/08/2026 13:44

First was 27hrs active labour with 2.5hrs of pushing, ended with ventouse and episiotomy.
Second was 6hrs active labour with 1hr of pushing
Third my waters went at about 9am and I had light on and off contractions all day, picked up in the evening, was examined and told I was 2cm then had a huge 20min long contractions at about 11.45pm and 3 mins of pushing later she was born

Pickledonion1999 · 07/08/2026 13:47

I have four. Third labour was very quick around 2.5 hours but fourth was much longer.

Instructions · 07/08/2026 13:49

Same total length of labour (under 3 hours), but whereas the second birth had had a 4 minute 2 pushes second stage, my third was a lot harder to get out and I pushed for half an hour and it hurt. But he was born with both hands on his head so that explained it!

quick isn’t always good. It can lead to some serious complications.

first I ended up in theatre because of how quick
Second I nearly died because it caused me to crash.
third she crashed because of how quick it was. And I ended up in theatre again.

my C-section was by far my best recovery. Because I didn’t have all the other complications that came with my quick births.

pottylolly · 07/08/2026 13:56

I don’t register dilation under 10cm as pain due to incredibly painful periods. So I often missed that part of labour. For me:

1st <2 hours
2nd just over 1 hour
3rd 30mins

I’ve heard a few people and midwife’s say that thirds are often an anomaly.

I am just hopeful it’s quick and complication free like my second but not so quick that I don’t make it to the hospital in time.

Ahhh really, we’re trying for a 4th I’m hoping I can just sneeze this next one out 🤣

Not until middle of November however we’re off for the six weeks so my brain is in baby overdrive. Genuinely think the sneeze method would be great 😂
