So nervous for early scan following multiple miscarriages

In 2022 I had a molar pregnancy but went on in 2023 to have my son. This year we started to try again and I got pregnant very quickly but ended up having a missed miscarriage for which I had surgery in May. Got pregnant immediately after but could never get a strong line and went on to get a negative and bleed so had a chemical. Got pregnant immediately after again PHEW and am now 7 weeks. This pregnancy has been so different to the one I had earlier this year, as I am unbelievably nauseous and retching, but I just can't see a good outcome. I clearly get pregnant very easily which I'm hoping is a good sign, but having a scan at the EGU tomorrow to rule out another molar and I just feel like a bag of nerves (I always get early scans because of this which is how they saw the pregnancy earlier this year was not developing properly). I know no one can predict the future for me, but would love to hear from others in the same boat, or who have had similar journeys.

I am in a very similar position, although my history is a bit different. I got pregnant last year and at 20 weeks we lost out daughter, which was incredibly traumatising. This was in February. Now I'm 7 weeks pregnant and absolutely anxious and terrified and convinced something bad is going to happen.

My early reassurance scan is tomorrow and I'm so scared. So you're not alone.

I'm generally trying to "stay positive" and not assume the worst but my anxiety has other ideas. Is your partner going to the scan with you? I hope so!

Good luck x

@eventide13 Thank you for your message. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. That must have been terrible and it's so understandable that you are thinking the worst. But statistics are on our side. That's what I keep trying to tell myself.

Gosh, our scans are the same day, and I'm also 7 weeks. Nice to be in this same (awful, scary) boat. Yes my husband is coming with me luckily. Is your partner with you?

I'll be wishing you the best for tomorrow. Mine is first thing so at least I'm not waiting around all day. Good luck to you x

You're right, statistics are on our side. The doctors I've seen think this is unlikely to happen again but they also each have a different theory as to what happened to cause my waters to break at 17 weeks, so it feels quite uncertain. Were you able to get explanations for your losses? I imagine it's harder to determine at an earlier gestation.

My scan is also first thing tomorrow! And yes, my husband is coming along.

Wishing you the best x

Hmm I can understand that that is not reassuring. Will you ask for any further tests? For me, the first was a complete molar, which is a very rare pregnancy complication where a tumour grows instead of a baby (I know, it sounds awful). The one in May was just bad luck they said, chromosomal abnormality most likely. And I wonder if the chemical was because it was too soon after the surgery I had (it was only two weeks after). But who knows, there seems like so much unknown in pregnancy

There are so many unknowns in pregnancy! All of your miscarriages sound very difficult in different ways.

They've already run all the tests and the post-mortem and they didn't find anything, so they can only speculate as to what happened based on the string of events (I had a bleed 2 weeks before my waters broke). But one doctor thinks an infection must have caused it, another that a piece of placenta fell and made me go into labour, and another that the bodily mechanism that heals hematomas after a bleed worked "too hard" and affected the integrity of the membrane.

These all sound like circumstantial things though so I'm really hoping they won't happen again. I just wish there was more research into this.

@eventide13 They have been, definitely. And experiencing 'bad luck' is hard to get your head around - I'm sure you understand what I mean. I'm sorry you are getting all those different answers. But yes as you say, they all sound like things particular to that pregnancy and unlikely to happen again.

Sending strength for the morning! Am going to be an absolute nervous wreck
