What tests or questions are worth asking after two unsuccessful FETs?

Hiya,

so we have done 2 FETS so far. The 1st one failed, the 2nd was a chemical pregnancy.

We shall have our review call with our IVF doctor in a week. I am not sure if they will use the “bad luck” card and try again and will actually offer some tests now.

What did you do after 2 unsuccessful FETS? What test is worth it? I do have PMOS, I am 37 and I just feel there is surely something wrong inside my uterus or the microbes but that’s obviously only the logical explanation I created myself 🙈

Please share any tips or what to ask.

Tia!

I only found out I had a raging thyroid problem after six failed IUIs. Turns out "full blood count" doesn't test thyroid at all.

Might not be your issue but worth a check.

@LividSummery thank you for the comment! I do have a thyroid issue and take Levothyroxine so that should be fine?

Your TSH should be under 1 to conceive, not just “in range”. And when you are pregnant, you should be tested every four weeks.

Oh wow! I have never heard this from anybody 🙈 my clinic wants me to be below 2.5!!!! 😒

I'd probably ask what factors may be causing the failures, though I don't know how easy that'll be to answer.

I had 3 failed transfers and am still unclear as to why they didn't work for me. It was so disheartening, so I completely empathise with what you're going through.

I did end up getting pregnant naturally though, also at 37.

My fourth transfer worked and we transferred 6 embryos total across the 4. I had a hysteroscopy and a blood clotting blood test done after transfer number 3 but both came back normal so it was just put down to bad luck. We were also offered karyotype testing but were told there was a long wait for it and wouldnt change what we could do with the embryos we already had. I was in my 20s also so shouldn’t have been an egg quality problem in theory, sometimes unfortunately it just takes multiple attempts. I hope your next transfer is successful for you, I know how hard it can be to not drive yourself crazy researching all the possibilities.

@PurpleTurtleMoose I am definitely going to ask them that although as you said that’s gonna be one without a clear answer imo…

Oh gosh I am so sorry. This is all so hard isn’t it? At this point I don’t even understand how people can get pregnant naturally 😂 but I am so pleased you had your happy ending xx

@FTMJul26 you are right. IVF is hard mentally, physically and financially. Its not like whatever we just try another month. You feel like you need to research everything because mistakes can cost you another £3.5k.
It all really sucks but as you said hopefully it is just the bad luck. I mean I feel a bit of relief knowing I can get pregnant at least but now what we do to make it to a real baby.
Really happy for you and well done for not giving up xx
