Seven weeks pregnant and anxious about symptoms and going abroad

Hi everyone,

Looking for some reassurance please . I’m 7 weeks pregnant, first pregnancy. I am literally freaking out and over thinking everything. It’s making me miserable. All of my symptoms seem normal - sore boobs, nausea, dull tummy aches , normal discharge and fatigue. But I feel like I’m driving myself insane over analysing everything. Today I’ve had some mild cramps- probably wind but I then convince myself it’s the start of a miscarriage or something else sinister. I’m suffering with nausea but if it goes off I then start to worry. I feel like my mind never stops. Is this normal, does everyone feel this way?!

Also going away for 2 weeks soon abroad and I’m freaking out about that. Will I feel pants the whole time? Will something happen when I’m there?! We have paid a lot of money and I really want to go as it will be our last holiday as a couple but I am constantly worrying that something may happen when we are there.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

For me this feeling was completely normal- and I was during covid! - until 12 weeks then I released a but until third trimester. I don’t know why people say pregnancy makes you glow and feel motherly - I was a mess!

To be honest I don’t think I could go overseas at the beginning pregnancy but up to you… will insurance cover it

I was nervous too - I had 2 miscarriages before having my DC. I looked back and wished I had actively relaxed more - deep breathing, going for walks in nature, actively focusing on other things because there is nothing you can do to guarantee anything.

Do you need tips to help with the nausea? You need to be well-rested, hydrated and eat something regularly.

Welcome to parenthood. The constant worry.

It is all perfectly understandable, but worry is not going to change your pregnancy. As long as you have insurance coverage and are careful about what you eat)no ice in drinks, no pate and soft cheese etc, what else can you do?

You may not have the energy for long excursions, but there is no empirical evidence that going on a trip gives poor pregnancy outcomes. Enjoy each other’s company. This time next year you will not be in the position of being able to travel.

BTW where are you going?

Trying to manage it at the moment. I find it is worse in the evenings !

We are going to Tenerife which is in Europe so around a 4 hour flight away so it’s not too bad!

Have you managed to have a scan yet, or are you due one before you go? We paid for a private scan at 7 weeks before we went abroad for a month just to check everything seemed okay and baby had a heartbeat etc so I was reassured I’d have less chance of miscarriage abroad.

All was good, the holiday was actually great for the first trimester with lots of relaxing, fresh fruit and fish, vitamin D from the sun etc ❤️

You (most 1st time Mums) worry at the start of pregnancy and even if all goes well you carry on worrying. When they are born, go to nursery, start school, leave school, go to work, marry etc You will still worry. Calm down and try to worry less if possible. That is life.

So one less worry - and high quality medical care in case you should feel unwell.

It will be hot. Aim to stay in the shade. Also I would avoid Volcano trips right now because it’s hot.

Not wishing to worry you, but I like the advice from a previous poster about having a scan it not already done.

Have fun.

No scan yet, they aren’t routinely offered until 12 weeks but I have been looking at private scans. Read really mixed things about them so I’m not sure if it’s worth it or not? I do think it would probably help ease some of my concerns so it probably is worth it.

oh yeah, definitely no volcano trips. I think the smell would kill me anyway. I’m just really hoping to enjoy it and not feel poorly 24/7. I’ve been looking into anti sickness medicine and might try and see the GP before we go to get a prescription to take just incase!

I’ve had an early scan with all three pregnancies and really recommend them for peace of mind as those 12 weeks can feel like forever!

Private scans can be from £50, definitely was worth it for me just to know the baby was viable and had a heartbeat etc before flying, although tbf my flight was long haul for a month and this baby was unexpected! Tenerife should have very good medical care. ❤️
