Can anyone who has or had an anterior placenta tell me when they started to feel little kicks?
This is my second baby but my first time having a front placenta.

20 weeks ish, but it doesn’t feel the same. More wooshy than kicky.

Good news though, the kicks don’t keep you up at night as much as the other way around!

Had anterior placentas with both my pregnancies and didn't feel kicks until maybe around 27 or 28 weeks! And agree with PP, I wasn't kept awake as much as others who had posterior placentas 😊

Felt first flutters at 18 weeks and felt baby daily since. Though my placenta is low as well as anterior so maybe that is why.

I had one second time and sorry to say I really didn’t like it. It gave me a lot of anxiety as couldn’t feel movement as much, I had to make a conscious effort to stop and focus on movements to reassure myself. I’d feel it low down sometimes and at the sides
if I laid on one side and had a cold drink. As I’d had a baby before I was more aware what to look for so movements weren’t really later but just harder to notice if that makes sense.
If you’re ever concerned about movements don’t hesitate to go in and be checked. I went a few times and always left feeling better and midwives were always happy to do checks.

I’ve just had my first baby and had an anterior placenta. I didn’t feel much at all. First felt movement about 28/29 weeks!! But never really felt much to be honest. I dont know any different though so didn’t worry too much

when did you start feeling the kicks? How did you cope with not being able to feel kicks a lot?
my friend had an anterior placenta and she was in hospital every week getting checked

Yes it was. I had a few weeks of anxiety around it, but i did feel the kicks really securely after about 26 weeks- they followed a set pattern! So dont worry

I felt flickers about 16 weeks then nothing for weeks. Felt them more about 22 weeks but still not loads or every day. I had to make an effort to feel them move, whereas with my first it was regular and could see them poking out feet etc! In terms of coping, I’d try to get them to move by relaxing, laying on my side, having a cold drink but honestly I did go to hospital multiple times over movement as there was lots of times I just couldn’t feel them. My baby is here and healthy and pretty chilled so maybe he was like this in the womb too but during pregnancy it stressed me out! Sorry for sounding negative 😬 wish it had been my first pregnancy as doubt I’d have worried half as much!

Mine is at the front but to the left so I felt movement at the same gestation as my previous pregnancies but only on the right side!

Couldnotificared · 02/08/2026 22:16

I was never told I had anterior placenta with my 1st pregnancy..32 years ago but I am guessing I did . I literally went for days without feeling movement throughout my whole pregnancy! I was sooo anxious and constantly going in to be monitored…it was awful. Feel angry that the position of placenta was never mentioned.Am glad that Mums have so much more information these days.
