i'm only 22 weeks with my second and already feeling that puffy, swelling feeling in my feet. is this just the warm weather? or a bad omen for my remaining 18+ weeks?

I got it very early on my second, but not this (my third) pregnancy. I think the difference is that I was sitting down all day at a desk last time, whereas this time I'm running round after a toddler. I think it must help the circulation.

The hot weather doesn't help. Stick your feet in cool water in the evening if you can, and if you are immobile for a lot of the day, try to get up and walk around as frequently as possible and elevate your feet where possible when you're sitting.

Sleeping on your left side helps to improve circulation as well and reduce fluid retention.

I would mention it on next antenatal check, sooner if the swelling looks more like "end of pregnancy" swelling.

i will talk to mw. i've actually got a toddler and am running around a lot more than i did with my first, which is why i'm so annoyed by this puffy feeling; felt like i was being healthier.

tbh, the swelling hasn't gotten too bad, it's still pretty slight but it's that icky feeling that makes you want to have your feet elevated all day long that is happening all the time.

[sorry for the miserable grammar. i think i need a nap!]

I had it on my second pg as well (but not my first or third)

My feet actually ballooned to a size 8 (normally a size 5) and I found it very uncomfortable to walk much. It was summer so I was able to wear flipflops, which was a blessing.

I was working full time (80+ hours a week) and on my feet a LOT so that may have had something to do with it (in fact, I strongly suspect it did )

My blood pressure was ridiculously high for the last week or two of my pg, but twas okay for the majority of it, but it is something that needs to be watched, as puffy ankles and feet can be a sign of high bp.

Fwiw, my feet and ankles shrank as soon as I had her, although my feet did grow a size, I am now a size 6.

(twelveyeargap - you have almost the same age differences between your three [well, when it's born] as I have between my three )

Twelve years, then 14 months. Excellent planning me thinks?

yep! we're uniquely placed to comment on big age gaps, small age gaps, teenage tantrums, toddler tantrums, GCSEs, nursery places...

Fount off all knowledge. I don't know why people on MN don't just call their threads, "Squonk and TYG - What do you think about..."

Try putting a pillow under the end of your mattress so your feet are slightly elevated all night. Worked wonders for me with DS1.
