Hi,

Im 18.5 weeks pregnant and have been feeling the baby moving everyday for a week. However the last time i felt it was mon morning. Its now Wed evening.............im worried.

Had an extremely stressful weekend and have been ill since mon afternoon with a heavy cold and sinusitus. I have slept prob 4 hours in the last 48.

Would this make the baby slow down or should i be worried?

Any help please?

Thanks

Go to the hospital.

Seriusly, dont want to freak you out as its probbly all ok but when in doubt go get it checked out.

abbymeg · 25/06/2008 21:30

Ring up NHS Direct now if it's really worrying you; or at least MW tomorrow morning. Don't take chances and get your mind put to rest. I think NHS Direct is 0845 46 47, and a nurse will talk to you. If they are worried, they may send you to the hospital. They may say it's nothing - but at least that's one less sleepless night. They're there to help. Good luck

Aitch · 25/06/2008 21:30

yep, get it checked, you'll feel so much better when you do. in the meantime, i used to find a very cold glass of full fat coke woke dd up when i was concerned.

Zippidy · 25/06/2008 21:31

Go and get monitored at hospital - they are brilliant and will do it quickly.

abbymeg · 25/06/2008 21:31

I agree with imum - if it was me, I'd take action now, whether ringing or going straight to hospital.

milkmoustache · 25/06/2008 21:36

agree with Aitch - eat something very cold or hot (would suggest a strong coffee if it wasn't so late), or run a nice warm bath - they respond to the light shining on the bump and your more relaxed state. But it doesn't hurt to get it monitored either.

Flum · 25/06/2008 21:39

I am 22 weeks and very rarely feel it. I think it depends on position of placenta. Felt more with other pregnancies.

Get monitored if it would make you feel beter. Having said that at 18.5 weeks if something went wrong there is nothing they can do so all you would actually gain would be peace of mind.

I don't think you would be taking any chances not going thoguh

orangehead · 25/06/2008 21:39

Dont wait it morning go to hosp. This happened a couple of times to me and was always ok, but the mw always stressed if less then 10 movements a day go to hospital. Hop all ok

MissingMyHeels · 25/06/2008 21:41

Call the Labour Ward and pop in for a doppler, am sure all is fine, it's very early days for movement anyway and I certainly didn't have consistent movement at that stage. Def worth getting checked for your peace of mind.

kentDee · 25/06/2008 21:45

I didnt have movement until about 25 weeks. We are all different. I would try a large cold glass of water with ice (if poss) and if still no movement, call your mw. Im sure all is ok. Good luck. x

Hi guys,

Thanks for all your posts. I took your advice and rang the local hospital who said they wouldnt see me without my midwife/doctor recommending it. I rang the out of hours midwife who told me to go in so i rang the hospital back and they told me to go up. I felt violently sick sat there, was awful. I had such a stressful weekend that i was blaming myself and could only think of the worst.

saw the doc and he tried to find heartbeat. After 3 mins and no heartbeat the tears welled up. He decided to move the doppler a lot lower into my pelvis and found it right away. Oh the relief that flowed through me, i could have passed out from the relief.

He said that because im poorly, babies are very clever and can tell you're unwell so they slow down completely and conserve their energy in a bid to help you get through your illness. Whilst im glad he/she is helping, i was begging them to wallop me with a kick! I've felt a couple of VERY light ones after he was finished so DP and i came home and spent 10 mins talking to him/her.

Thanks so much for the support and help. Lets hope i get better soon so the little one will be back to normal activity!

Thank goodness for that, I was holding my breath reading your thread. thanks for the update and hope things continue to go well, and that you feel better soon.

Alexa808 · 26/06/2008 05:04

Just read your post. Oh what a relief to hear this. So glad for you! Get well soon.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 26/06/2008 07:32

I got food poisoning a couple of weeks ago (now 29 weeks) and the baby barely moved for days after. I went to hospital and got monitored and it was fine. I think they do quiet down when you are poorly!

belgo · 26/06/2008 07:36

glad this thread has a happy outcome. I was also sick for a week or so, and the baby became very quiet(am 6 months pregnant), and the doctor listened to the heartbeat with a doppler. Now I'm better the baby is far more active.

orangehead · 26/06/2008 10:26

so pleased for you

Hey everyone, thanks so much for your concern, well wishes and support. I appreciate everyone taking the time to write something to me.......i love the support on this website.

Baby still very slow today but i've had a couple of very light kicks this morning. I've been singing to him/her, talking, moving around in a bid to get them to move! It is definitely going to be a daddys child, when i lay down and hes talking to it he tickles my tummy and the baby loves it. It really responds well!

Thanks again everyone, got my 20 week scan on 9th July so i am looking forward to checking everything is ok!

Just a quick Q, would any of you suggest buying one of these dopplers? I expect having the machinery in the house would make you more paranoid but has it helped anyone feel more reassured?

I have one and have only used it a few times but when I did it was very reassuring. Like another poster said - if you use it and can't find the hb for whatever reason you will worry so you kind of have to keep trying once you start - therefore its only worth doing if you are so worried you are thinking of phoning the mw. The other thing about them is that they bother the baby (they can hear the sound waves apparently so they will quite often move after or while you are using it.

I find a cup of coffee works well to get them moving - not ideal but you are not going to do it five times a day!

babylove123 · 27/06/2008 16:48

Hi,

I think i might invest in one. However they're quite expensive arent they! Might have a hunt and see if i can find one second hand!

I love hearing the little ones heartbeat so would be nice to be able to hear it when im a little concerned. However im sure within a few weeks he/she will be so big i wont be able to not know they're moving around!!!!
