Did your gallstone symptoms in pregnancy resolve after giving birth?

Has anyone ever had gallstone issues during pregnancy that resolve completely after delivery ?

I have had 2 flares and confirmed gallstones on an ultrasound. In-between I have felt completely normal and can tolerate all foods.

I had assumed that any issues would result in removal after birth but I’m wondering if that’s the case for everyone ? I have read so many horror stories online about removal.

Gallstones can be more likely to occur during and after pregnancy due to the higher production of estrogen I believe. Many women like me had them while on mat leave.

Gallstones/your gallbladder aren’t likely to get better and you may not stop experiencing symptoms.

I had mine removed and I am fine.

Thank you for replying.

Can I ask how you were after surgery ? I have read so many horror stories about people needing to go to the toilet after every meal & having a poorer quality of life ?

I know that the negative stories are often louder on social media, so hoping this isn’t the case for the majority !

thanks again

I developed gallstones in pregnancy but it wasn't diagnosed until DS was a toddler. I had my gallbladder out about 30 years ago. I'm absolutely fine. My health and quality of life are great and I don't go to the loo more than anyone else.
It's certainly better than living with the agonising pain of gallstones.

I developed gallstones in pregnancy which wasn’t diagnosed until my baby was 4 months old. I am still awaiting surgery for mine to be removed and my baby is now 7 months. I still have regular gallstone attacks and have changed my diet to avoid them.

At my consultant appointment, they said that diarrhoea can increase and is common and there is medication to take to help this.

It is fine. I can eat what I want. I would say the toilet needs have just got a bit worse when I am on my period or in high times of stress.

I had my gallbladder removed 6 months after my first child was born. It was the best thing that I could possibly recommend. The surgery, recovery and life afterwards was all totally straightforward. They don’t tend to resolve after pregnancy, no, and I was told that it was common that it would be worse in the next pregnancy, if I had one. Since worse can include extremely serious complications, I definitely didn’t want to take that risk.
