Anterior placenta

I have googled but I’m wanting some actual experience from actual people.

ive found out I have an anterior placenta.
this is the first time I’ve had this and no idea what it could mean for the rest of the pregnancy.
i know kicks will be felt later on.
im also ab- blood group, so does that mean I need to be extra careful with my bump?
a few more questions 😅🙈
what are the chances of the placenta moving down?
Chances of a c-section?
or was everything smooth sailing?
mum due near Christmas Day so I really want to prepare myself for all outcomes.
thank you

I had an anterior placenta with my first, I did feel movements later, more like 23 weeks. No idea on blood group, sorry!

My placenta didn’t move down, I did have an emergency c-section but that wasn’t anything to do with the placenta.

Congratulations! 😊

I had an anterior placenta too. It was my only pregnancy so nothing to compare it too but I never felt much in kicking throughout! Just the odd ‘tickle’ here and there.

Didnt cause any problems…..other than me worrying myself sick with the lack of movement. I had lots of extra scans (for a completely unrelated reason) so it was strange to see baby kicking away and moving around and me barely feeling anything.

my Dd is now 12!

Should’ve added that I never needed a section

I had an anterior placenta with my first. Felt kicks later around 22 ish weeks. Caused me no issues. As one previous poster said, I too needed a c section but that was nothing to do with the placenta. Good luck with your pregnancy xx

I had ap with my 2nd only difference was feeling the kicks later. Had a natural birth same as my first.

It's just a variation of normal no reason to treat your pregnancy differently.

Felt very strong kicks throughout with the first from very early, second one we are 29 weeks in and also having very strong kicks.
delivered first naturally with no issues.

Doesn't really mean anything extra in pregnancy other than it can affect how you feel movements. I had one in my second pregnancy but apart from the more muffled movements, it was no different to the first. No c section needed and no being extra careful with bump.

Your placenta won't move down as pregnancy progresses, sometimes they move up as the bump grows and the muscles stretch up and out.

I had an anterior placenta with my second. It makes no difference to your risk or your care. As you are Rh- any hard knock to your bump would be treated the same as a posterior placenta with anti-D injection.

I actually felt movements early on (~13 weeks) but only ever around the edges of my bump. Luckily I had a baby with very strong movements that loved hitting me there. Placenta remained 'high' for the entire pregnancy.

My baby was stubbornly back to back throughout labour, which has a small association with an anterior placenta. I eventually had a C-section due to failure to progress. So it's by no means certain you will have a C-section, but your risk might be very slightly elevated.

I had an anterior placenta with my son and do again this time. I didn’t feel movements til 23 weeks either first time (though 19 weeks this time). There is a higher likelihood of baby being back to back with anterior — mine was! Check the spinning babies website for exercises to get him/her facing the right way. I delivered naturally with no epidural though and consider it a very good birth, though v painful.

if you’ve got a negative blood group you should have the blood group of the baby tested at 16 weeks (through a jab in your arm, no harm to baby possible). If the baby is also negative, no problem. If positive, you’ll need anti D injections if your bump gets hit and after birth. Shouldn’t be any issues either way.

placenta won’t move from anterior to posterior.

good luck! I was due Christmas Day too with my first — born on 23rd ☺️

Awww my original due date was Christmas Day, scan has put me at 22nd 😅
this is number 6 and the first time I’ve had anterior placenta.
we lost at the beginning of the year and was hoping to feel movements for reassurance 🤦🏼‍♀️ looks like I’ll be waiting a bit longer 😂

Anterior placenta for my second and i still felt the first ripple of movements from 15 werks, saw a kick type movement at around 21 weeks which was the same as my first who was posterior. Movements were slightly muted im comparison up to 27 weeks ish, but still knew her pattern. No extra worries with being A-, just if i hit the bump or bled I would need the Anti D same as before. Otherwise natural delivery and all fine.

Didn't feel many kicks which meant I had to go to the hospital later in pregnancy to get checked as I could feel nothing. I was in and out each time within a hour. Apart from that easy pregnancy and fairly straight forward labour, didn't need C-section.
