Eating rubbish food to combat 1st trimester nausea

I'm about 8 weeks along with second pregnancy and haven't experienced any morning sickness but I am getting nausea often. It's making me want to eat rubbish, and eat a lot! I can cope with my usual breakfast of porridge or cereal with fruit on top but after that the only thing that makes me better is eating. A sandwich, noodles, crisps or something else beige, or yoghurt. I often feel sick, eat something, feel better, finish it and then 15 minutes feel sick again.

I don't remember experiencing this the first time round - had almost no symptoms then. Has anyone else had this?! I feel like I'm eating the way I did when I was a teenager!!

I'd say that's pretty standard. I was never sick when pregnant with my son, but had bad hangover level of nausea 24/7 from 7-15 weeks. Being hungry made it worse, eating helped temporarily. Dry water biscuits helped as they are basically dust so I didn't pile weight on.

Very normal! I went off all sweet foods - even fruit - which was so odd for me because i have a very sweet tooth - and the only things I could eat were sandwiches, toast, plain pasta, ready salted crisps and crackers. It lasted til week 16 for me; this period is all about survival - just eat what you can and don't worry about being 'unhealthy'

I used to joke one of my kids was going to come out half milkshake, because that's about all I kept down and soothed my sore throat and stomach during part of that pregnancy.

Sounds like my first trimester. I did exactly the same, although try and get some protein in too so you aren't getting hungry quite so quickly. Peanut butter, nutty/protein cereal bars, babybells, philidelphia and crackers. Also salt and vinegar crisps were great for me when feeling sick.

I finally stopped with the constant eating around 16 weeks so it won't last forever!

Oh god I am exactly the same right now and I don’t remember this with my first either!

I’m like a bottomless pit and feel nauseous/sick every few hours with food being the only thing that cures it! I’ve already put weight on I can literally feel it ☹️ I had tried so hard to lose before falling pregnant too but oh well. I’m just hopeful I can get to the 12 week point where I can be more open about it!

Mine feels like a hangover too

I feel the same! I am a food lover normally but I usually eat 3 square meals, this constant grazing is something else! But I guess it's only temporary and we shouldn't worry too much.

Hi, congratulations on your pregnancy. I was very similar in both of my pregnancies, though I was never sick and I could usually eat an ok breakfast.
Didn't want vegetables apart from cucumber and raw carrot. Bananas were ok. Lived off crackers, rich tea biscuits, salt and vinegar crisps and cheese.
It started to improve around 12 weeks and my appetite was back to normal by 20 weeks.

DefiantRabbit9 · 06/07/2026 22:28

That's morning sickness. If you get a chance eat Avocado it contains folate and B12, the B12 will help take the edge off your morning sickness.

Solidarity with the constant nausea. I’m 6+3 and could just curl up in a ball at times. I feel the grazing constantly does help and get the cravings of rubbish. I’ve totally gone off meat, can barely handle it either at the minute feel I could just vomit. Thankfully not actively vomiting. It does pass, my last pregnancy I think it lifted around 14 weeks

For the first 12 weeks all I could stomach was Asda plain ham sandwiches and Wotsits. The occasional yoghurt.
I couldn't even make the sandwiches myself because touching the ham made me sick!

I lived on white toast for weeks. Eventually added in ginger sweets. No harm done - both kids fine.

LimeFish · 07/07/2026 09:17

Same experience with my second pregnancy, sadly the nausea lasted 9 months.

I’m around the 12 week mark now and have been living mostly on cheese, crackers, dry rice crispies and toast. Supplemented by spearmint softmints. Trying not to stress about it, I’m taking pregnancy vitamins so hoping that is sort of making up for the lack of real nutrition.
