Protecting your unborn child from radiation

Hey there,

I'm pregnant with my first baby and having heard so much about Wi-Fi, radiation from mobile phones etc. I was wondering if anybody knew how to protect an unborn child from it?

I know that Japanese women for instance don't use mobiles or computers etc. during their entire pregnancy and find this not very practible myself as I work in an office.

What can I do or use to protect my baby?

Looking forward to your replies.

Take care,

so.... do you think I've already harmed the baby since I've had my laptop on my lap every night? I'm stopping now... I won't put it there again! But is there damage already done? I'm nearly 25 weeks!!!!!!!!!

staranise · 26/06/2008 15:21

And what, exactly, does this harm consist of? Is it from raised body temperature? Or causing cancer etc? If so, why does noone - manufacturers/government/medical bodies etc warn you about this when we are warned about everything from alcohol to soft cheese to fairground rides etc etc?

really, am completely in the dark about this.

this has been a long day with too much going on.... i'm losing my head about this, so I think I'll try to do some research about this.

Hey girls
It's been a while and I promised to report back once I received my garment made out of conductive material.

Well, it's arrived and very nice to wear. It's a good size and you can actually grow the belly into.

I'm still trying to find out more about how it actually works but as far as I understand it's very thin copper thread that's weaved into the fabric. I believe the copper prevents or at least reduces the radiation waves to enter your body.
there's all sorts of anti-radiation material out there. A Swiss company is producing boxershorts to protect men's genitals from radiation. Mind you they need protecting as they tend to carry their mobiles in their pockets.

If I find out more, I'll update you.

So long. Bye for now.

Redhead - I'm a telco engineer and I'm unconvinced about your radiation garment. But there is a simple test:
Put a radio inside it. If the radio can still recieve signal then it is doing nothing. Altenatively, put your mobile phone inside it and call it. If it rings then radiation is getting through...

BTW when I used to design mobile phone towers the radiation was typically 10 - 100 times less than the WHO recommendations. I personally am not concerned about mobile phone towers - although most mobile masts are hidden now (in garage forecourts, road signs etc) but I wouldn't stand next to a microwave while pregnant.

Laptop getting hot on your lap is due to the battery not the WiFI....

Euh, no. I saw many pregnant Japanese women on their phones and with their laptops. Japan is probably one of the world's best country when it comes to wifi. Unless they live in a hut on a top of a hill somewhere on the north of Hokkaido.

I would not worry too much to be honest.

How will you protect the baby from radiation once it’s born? It won’t suddenly have special ‘outside-the womb’ protection.

Thecomfortador · 12/10/2017 22:01

Ops baby would be age 9 now. I suspect they're not going to come back and let us know how the radiation affected them.
