Pelvic girdle pain starting early in second pregnancy, any tips?

I’m 17 weeks pregnant with DC2, and have begun to feel pelvic girdle pain creeping in… I had it quite badly in my first pregnancy, but I don’t recall it bothering me until well into my third trimester!

My midwife did say, that with this being a second pregnancy I might find that everything happens sooner and more intensely such as movements, Braxton Hicks, round ligament pain etc. But I didn’t anticipate that I’d have pelvic girdle pain this early on. Last time it got so bad that some days I really struggled to walk downstairs and couldn’t drive to work. My midwife keeps telling me I’m young and healthy but at the minute I feel so stiff and achy and I’m just dreading it getting worse!

I do a lot of walking around at work across quite a large site area, but it’s not as if I do anything very strenuous or heavy lifting. I’m just a bit worried and would like to try out anything that might nip it in the bud or, at the very least, stop it from getting much worse as further on in pregnancy. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for managing PGP?

Avoid incline walking.

I had this in my second pregnancy so I sympathise with you its extremely painful, I started quite early like 16weeks up until birth which at that point I could barely move.
You need a support belt soon as possible really and dont over do things take your time and rest .

I had SPD which also started early on but thankfully settled down during the third trimester.

It's usually due to the hormone relaxin making your joints and muscles looser and less stable.

Get yourself a good quality pregnancy support belt during the day and a large body pillow for sleeping.

The only real relief I found was a bath (at the times I could actually get in and out of one).

Also, get yourself referred to a Physio. If that isn't possible, see a Chiropractor with knowledge of treating women in pregnancy.

I sincerely hope your midwives are more helpful and caring than mine were!

PGP is treatable, something I'd wish I'd known when I got it at 8 weeks in my third pregnancy. It's not just a support belt, hydrotherapy and crutches/wheelchair as I was told. Treating the pelvic instability prevents the long term issues. Check out Pelvic partnership.
