Pregnant and Traumatised by an Internal Prolapsing Hemmoroid.

I'm 25 weeks pregnant FTM and struggling beyond belief. I've had issues with constipation over the last few weeks and as a result have developed an internal hemmoroid which prolapses after every bowel movement. It is pretty small but I have to push it back up everytime. It's actually traumatising me. I'm using otc suppositories, cream, going sitz baths, taking stool softeners, eating more fiber and it just isn't going away.

Please someone tell me you have experienced this and it has gone away eventually. Specifically an internal one that prolapses. Even gone into remission for a period of time where it no longer happens and flares occasionally. Please give me some hope that I'm not going to have to deal with this on a daily basis for the rest of my life. Does it ever shrink and become asymptomatic. Please please share some good news stories. I can't stand the thought of having to put my finger up my bum on a daily basis.

Mine have all stuck around- it’s not very glamorous I’m afraid! Mine were from birth and made worse second pregnancy.

I’ve had these on and off since baby 2. They do tend to sort themselves out but it can take a few weeks. Apparently you can get some stronger stuff on prescription from the GP, worth investigating.

Mine stayed, sorry. But! Significantly easier once not pregnant and I can go months and months without any bother. I only have an issue with them if I have constipation.

Complicatedthings · 27/06/2026 18:26

I had the same during pregnancy. It became a recurring issue that happens every now and again.

Going to try to get a GP appointment on Monday. Where yours internal that you needed to push back up?

I really hope they go away, I feel like I could manage more if I knew they were temporary. I'm miserable. Where yours internal that you needed to push back up?

Yes, they were. I’ve had haemorrhoids on and off since baby 2, sometimes internal prolapsing ones (have one currently). It sucks, completely, but I’d say you do get used to them and having to be patient and consistent with the medication, and drinking lots and lots of water helps. And I have IBS-D, so the opposite issue to constipation. The Anusol Soothing Relief is the best OTC I’ve found, the hydrocortisone really helps imo.

Thank you. You have given me some hope. Think I can cope better knowing they can settle for a period of time at least. I'm sorry your dealing with them too right now. They are horrible and so uncomfortable.

Thanks, it must be extra rubbish when you’re pregnant but far more likely because of increased blood volume. I hope you’re back to normal soon and they don’t bother you on the regular! I suggest lying down rather than sitting where you can eg evenings and keeping a stash of the anusol in the medicine cabinet and breaking them out at the slightest hint of a relapse, using them before bed so they have all night to work etc.

In the end, no. Fully external but they’re really really small now. I know how you feel, I felt the same. But it really has faded in to the background now. Only have issues when I have constipation and I overcome that quite quickly by not even trying to go, taking needed meds and as a physio told me, even on a good day never push a poo out with force, always breathe them out on an out breath!
