Consultant appointment after 20 week scan: routine or for my history?

I’ve just had my routine 12 week dating scan and all was fine. I briefly saw a midwife at the hospital after who took bloods f& blood pressure as standard.
I received a letter in the post a few days ago for my 20 week scan date, however I have also just been emailed through a letter with an appointment with a consultant for 4 days after the scan, but I have no idea what this is for.
This will be my fourth baby, with my last pregnancy I had a low laying placenta and thus had a c-section delivery. I’m also classed at being a geriatric mother as I’m 37. Can anyone advise on what this appointment could be for please? Or does everyone have an appointment with a consultant a few days after their 20 week scan? Thanks in advance!

This appointment will be because of your history of previous c section and low lying placenta. They will see where your placenta is at your scan and can chat through options for birth- whether you want a VBAC or whether you want a c section.

Ahh I see! Thanks very much! Hoping they will be okay with me asking for a c section this time again, I know last time it was my only option due the placenta blocking the exit route so to speak, but my experience with it was a lot better than my first two which were v deliveries. Everyone is different but I found the recovery much better. I’ve never ‘asked’ for a c section before so fingers crossed they will be happy for that to go ahead!

Yes they absolutely should agree to a c section- it is in the NICE guidelines that a woman can request a c section delivery for any reason. You have already had one and many women opt for a c section after a previous due to the increased risk of uterine rupture in labour or because they had a good experience. I highly doubt there will be any issue with you asking for one. Hope all goes well.
