Baby movements

First time mum so get anxious and confused with this one but can babies movements be stronger some days than others?

my baby has days where she will be really strong to the point it can hurt me when she’s moving then a few days much softer movements. Is this always worth going in and getting checked anyway?

I feel it could be down to positioning but just tricky to tell and I have an anterior placenta but I don’t think that matters. (32 weeks)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

As someone who has previously had a stillborn I say always best to get checked, funnily enough with my first I went in for reduced movements only for her to move the second I was hooked up to the machine, when I apologised for wasting their time, the midwife said she would always rather people come in with false alarms that wait it out and have a bad experience

An anterior placenta can act as a cushion so you may not feel movements as much or as strong compared to a posterior placenta.

If you can feel baby moving regularly then that is a good thing. Some days they may kick and move stronger than others due to positioning etc but if in ANY doubt you should call triage.

I'm a first time Mama too and hot damn, yes! Yes our babies can be more active some days more than others but if something doesn't feel right go to the triage. Even if she's just moving less, it's better to be safe than sorry.

I'm another one who says that yes, sometimes movements feel stronger and softer depending on position, your activity level (lots of walking might send Babe off to sleep), what you've been eating and drinking (my baby seemed to react to cold food) etc but if you feel at all that things are off then call triage and get checked.

Advice has changed recently and while it's still a good idea to get to know your baby's pattern of movement the focus is now on "do you feel something is not right?" so if you think weaker movements are out of character or that Baby is moving too much (as if they could be in distress) then the midwives will want to see you.

My son was head down all way through then he had a day of non stop moving. It hurt me and he was really really rolling about then i hardly felt anything. I went in as I was concerned he was distressed and they listened to him & scanned me to check he was ok & he'd moved himself into a footling breech position. Always best to ring and go in.
Don't feel like you're being silly or wasting their time. It's always best to get checked x
