Currently 8w1d and was prescribed this (5mg) two days ago for dry hyperemesis gravidarum at the Urgent Treatment Centre. It’s not working at all. I don’t actually vomit, no dry heaving, just contstant debilitating nausea and dizziness. Had no ketones in my urine but it was darker in colour. I don’t have my first midwife appointment until Wednesday and I don’t feel like I can keep going on like this. I can’t eat much of anything, after a few bites I’m instantly nauseous all over again and nothing stops it. Cyclizine doesn’t work for me hence why I was swapped onto this one but this one isn’t doing anything either. I physically do not have the energy to go and sit up at the hospital again for hours on end in a waiting room.

Ginger doesn’t work, peppermint tea doesn’t work, nothing seems to be helping and I’m on the verge of having a breakdown. I have severe emetephobia on top of this too. My nausea was bad in my last pregnancy but this just takes the cake. I can only drink weak juice with ice in it. Please, can anybody give me some advice on what to do? I’m really struggling and I need help :(

thank you for reading, sorry it’s so long :( x

I’m sorry you’re going through this. I was in and out of hospital with HG with my pregnancies. With my last pregnancy I was sick until I gave birth. The only thing that helped was oral melt ondanestron, it had to be the one that melts on the tongue, because every time I swallowed a tablet I got a rush of pure acid. Hope you can find relief soon. None of the old wives tale remedies worked for me and I’ve ended up with an aversion to ginger that’s never gone away due to how many different types of ginger I tried when I felt so ill in my first pregnancy. 💐

so sorry you are suffering with this. One of my friends took Cariban after many failed anti nausea treatments and she said that it worked really well for her. It’s safe in pregnancy and she took it for all 3 of her children. It’s used for HG and is on prescription. It might be worth trying out and asking your GP. Hope you feel better soon OP.

Xonvea is a new one that’s licensed for this, maybe worth a try

DearTealMember · 23/06/2026 00:46

I had HG and Ondansetron was the only one that worked. I think I was taking it along side cyclizine too.
I would eat one dry cracker every hour, I couldn’t have any meals.
I wish you the best as it is truly one of the worst things to go through. Hang in there and just keep switching until you find something that works or even just partially.

I’ve just managed to have some crispy M&Ms and omg they were the best thing I’ve ever tasted 😭😭 only a small handful as I didn’t wanna push it. I’ll ask about the Xonvea and Ondanestron at my appointment tomorrow. Thank you so much for replying ladies 😭🥹🫶

I am currently taking xonvea and cyclizine and they have been working quite well for me (still being optimistic even though I am awake right now due to puking my guts up....although I think the heat is playing a big part in that tonight)

Oh no, I’m sorry to read this :( I’m still awake too with nausea. Came back after I ate those M&Ms 😭😭😭 I’ll be asking for both of them as I can’t keep taking the one I’m on due to it causing cardiac problems! It interacts with my citalopram badly apparently :( hope you feel better quickly 🤞🤞🤞 Though I suspect it’ll get worse cause of the heat for us both :( how many weeks are you, if you don’t mind my asking? Don’t have to tell me, ofc 🫶

If you’re taking citalopram then Ondansetron is a no no as it can affect qt interval when taken together

Sorry you are going though this - I was in and out of hospital when I was pregnant. 10 years later I still can’t eat or drink anything ginger flavoured 🤢
