High combined screening risk in pregnancy and waiting for NIPT

Good morning everyone.

I had the dreaded call yesterday from the fetal-maternal midwife to say that my risk for Downs Syndrome and PE was in the very high risk category.

I am 39 FTM multiple failed IVF transfers and been on this journey since my early 30's. However, this pregnancy is spontaneous 🙌

I had a 12.3 week scan and I thought it was all good, although the midwife didn't really explain or say much to me.

I had the combined blood test which has come back 1:10 chance of DS.

hCG B - 2.22 mom
PAPP A - 0.33
NT - 1.29 mom (2mm)
UTPi - 1.23 mom

Ive been offered the NIPT, which I'll have on Monday, but I just feel so devastated and anxious.

I know my chances are high and the thought of anything being wrong with my precious baby terrifies me. I suppose i'm just starting this thread for other mums to be in a similar situation for a bit of peer support. instead of going crazy talking to an AI machine, which is really inhumane and also a bit scary.

Happy Friday expectant parents ❤.

@diamonds2023 I’m so sorry you’re going through this too. It really is such a heartbreaking position to be in.
It feels like the hardest decision I’ve ever had to even think about. What makes it so difficult for me is knowing how much has changed over the years with early intervention, therapies and support. My scan was also fairly reassuring, and the doctor said that, at this stage, there wasn’t anything that would require surgery, although of course they said things can change as the pregnancy progresses.
I had the phone call yesterday to arrange the surgical TFMR, and I just couldn’t stop crying afterwards. I realised that I don’t have a crystal ball. I don’t know what either version of my future looks like, and that’s what I find so hard.
I was so incredibly happy to finally get pregnant after everything we’d been through. It feels like I’ve spent so much of this journey on the wrong side of statistics that it’s hard to trust anything anymore.
I’m so sorry you’re having to face this too, and I’m thinking of you for next week

I’m so sorry you're going through this @diamonds2023& @TheCandidPugI’m not sure if either of you listens to podcasts, I've just seen this weeks Women’s Hour has a discussion about TFMR which may be helpful. Take good care of yourselves x
