5wks today and light bleeding! Is this definitely bad?

I am 5 weeks today. Last night I had some brown spotting (like brown water) but only when I wiped and this morning I had some more. Then it was red water the next time I went. But the last time (about 1 hour ago) it was brown again.

I had a mc in November which started out brown for 4 days, then turned red and clotty. I lost it that time.

I want to know if there is any chance I am NOT having a mc. I have NO CRAMPS whatsoever and my breasts are still tender.

Has anyone out there had red bleeding and carried their baby full term and healthy?

yes - it could still be implantation....

I had three bleeds with the last preganancy, 5wks, 20 wks and 30odd wks all red blood and have a happy healthy 2.6yr old.

Thank you, I am praying everything is ok but it's hard to keep thinking positive.

Yes. With dd I had what amounted to a short, light period at about the time I would have had one anyway. Heavy enough to be needing pads for a few days. Had cramps too.

I had a scan at 5 weeks - they said it was too early to tell and to come back in 2 weeks. Next 2 weeks were awful! Second scan at 7 weeks showed a heartbeat.

Rest of pg was fine and normal and dd is now 6yo.

Hang in there!

tinkhasabean · 24/06/2008 11:44

brown is more likely to be implantation @ this stage. keep an eye on it. you can ring midwife if you are concered

funnypeculiar · 24/06/2008 11:49

I always post on the early pg bleeding threads
Bled throughout my first pg (red, brown, with 7 without clots, you name it!) - lots of bleeding & cramping around 5-6 weeks. Delivered a bit early at 36 weeks, but fine, healthy baby (now 4)
Bled a few times in early pg with dd - delivered fine at 40 weeks - now 2.

Fwiw, I was told bleeding in pg is MUCH more common than most of us realise, but should always be checked out - so I'd ring your mw/doctor & let him/her know. Suspect you may be too early for an early scan to be helpful, but if it happens again you might get one of those - they are very reassuring.

Pinkjenny · 24/06/2008 11:50

I bled consistently from weeks 5 - 8, started off brown, then had about a day of bright red blood (no clots though), then back to brown. I had scans at 5 weeks, 6 weeks and 7 weeks. Saw a heartbeat at 7 weeks. My pg symptoms (nausea, full, sore boobs) never abated throughout the bleeding. Dd is 13 months old now.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. It is really hard when you have previously miscarried as every twinge takes on an ominous meaning.

I agree that this is probably an implantation bleed as the timing is about right, but as others have said keep an eye on things and talk to your community MW/GP if you are worried.

Is there an EPU near you? you could always call them and see what they say, but they don't like scanning much before 6/7 weeks as there often isn't much to see at this stage.

Come and join us on the www.mumsnet.com/Talk/49/543447 Pragnanct After Miscarriage support thread]]. We've all been through it and are at avrious stages of our pregnancies. The thread was a real lifeline to me in my last pregnancy

Thank you all of you. I am still having some brown "watery" bleeding. I still have no cramping, but I have a splitting headache (could be from all the crying I've done today) and I feel like I'm about to throw up (maybe because I haven't had much to eat).

My doctor said she can't do anything, Ihave spoken to everyone I can think of for advice and they all say the same thing. There is nothing I can do but wait

try and take care of yourself Alice; eat little and often and make sure you are drinking plenty of water. And rest up as much as possible. Fingers crossed for you. you can take paracetomol in the usual doses for your headache if you need to.

daisy xx

funnypeculiar · 24/06/2008 16:42

Yup, keep yourself rested & well fed & watered. my gp said that actually, me resting wouldn't make any difference to the outcome of the pg, but at least I'd feel I'd done everything I could....

Fingers crossed for you

Alice I had implantation bleed for 3 days before BFP then a very small amount of bright red blood then brown spotting at 6 weeks - am now 17 weeks and have had no more bleeding - 12 week scan was fine and heard hearbeat at 16 week MW appt last week. I know it is difficult but try to stay calm and rest, like the other ladies have said there is nothing you can do but wait - but hopefully it helps to know that this has happened to loads of us and not been the end. When I told friends about PG and bleed more than half of them told me that they had had bleeds in the first trimester - it is very common. I have everything crossed for you xx

It definitely helps to know that a lot of women get red bleeding and still keep their babies. I am taking heart from the fact that I still have no cramping.

I am even too scared to have a bath in case it gets worse!

Hiya I had lightish simimlar twice in the first twelve weeks, no cramping though. First time I thought it was just a pathetic period and had no clue I was pregnant. Went on to have DS at 37 weeks, now a healthy happy 3 year old. I know this is a ridiculous thing to sy but do try to relax a bit if you can. Good luck and loek after yourself.

bumbling · 24/06/2008 18:08

Oh yes and forgot to say my boobs were sore as hell too in the early days.

Alice22 · 24/06/2008 18:22

My boobs are still really tender. When I lost my baby in November as soon as I had red blood my boob pain disappeared. The fact that the red has changed back to brown and I still have sore boobs must be a good sign mustn't it?

Have you seen this thread btw?

mibbes · 25/06/2008 13:04

Alice how are you today ?

Alice22 · 25/06/2008 21:56

Still spotting (brown) but every time I wipe. I think it's a bit less than yesterday though. I went to see the fertility specialist and told him what was happening. He immediately told me I should have been given progesterone as soon as the pregnancy was confirmed. (Which is what I had been BEGGING my doctor for yesterday but she refused to give it to me). So now I am on Cyclogest pessaries until 15 weeks. And fingers crossed. x

Alice22 · 26/06/2008 15:33

Great news girls!

This morning (after only one pessary) my spotting has got so much better, it is now really pale brown and much less of it - only yesterday it was quite dark.

This Cyclogest seems to be good stuff!

All I have to do now is keep taking them, relax and wait to see my little baby's heartbeat on Wednesday.

star6 · 26/06/2008 19:31

good to hear!!
Also - just to reassure... I had quite a few bleeding episodes early on, all unexplained (some because exercise to vigorous, like running, but others complete mysteries). I'm 25 weeks now and baby is completely healthy as far as they can see.

Also if there is an early pregnancy unit in your nearby hospital, they are usually really helpful and can advise and reassure.

Alice22 · 27/06/2008 15:02

My doctor failed to refer me to my EPU this week, and as a result I only got to speak to someone about it today. They told me to do a test, which sadly came back negative.

They said because of that, there is no reason to come in and they have cancelled my scan next week.

My little baby didn't make it

Thank you all for your support. x x
