What does morning sickness feel like?

Hi, I’m currently 6 weeks 6 days pregnant and just unsure if what I’m experiencing is morning sickness.

for majority of the day I feel fine, but I’ll get a bit like weak feeling, and then hiccupy, and feel like I should eat something but not really in the mood for anything. It’s not that the idea of food makes me feel sick it’s just I’m not bothered, if that makes sense.

I’ve vomited twice, once at 6 weeks and once last night, but both were after taking my supplements just before bed instead of my normal time of the day. So I’ve put that down to a funny stomach from those.

i don’t feel nauseous I don’t think, bar just before I was sick those two times.

does this sound normal?

The vomiting was probably morning sickness. The other feelings are not, because you don't feel sick! It's not that complicated, morning sickness feels like urgent need to vomit, not always followed by vomiting but usually.

ThatsCute · 16/06/2026 20:46

Mine felt like a really bad hangover, like when you need to vomit. But when I did vomit, it didn’t make me feel
any better/give me any relief. Like a 24/7 hangover where every tiny smell made me want to vomit.

Chiapotayto · 16/06/2026 20:46

For me, a constant feeling of nausea, throwing up randomly throughout the day and whenever I ate or drank anything, and continuing to throw up randomly throughout the rest of my pregnancy.

It doesn’t sound like traditional morning sickness but it very much sounds like pregnancy related. Gassy and hiccups and loss of appetite are very typical symptoms!

Yes! It was both a blessing and quite annoying that I couldn’t change my toddler’s nappy in second pregnancy without throwing up!

TheGriffle · 16/06/2026 20:48

I was never actually sick but spent weeks feeling horribly nauseous all day every day.

Felt hungry but the thought of everything made the nausea worse, nibbled on rich tea biscuits and cheese and onion pasties (the only things I could stomach!)

ucAndChildBenefit · 16/06/2026 20:49

I had HG. It was nausea 24/7 most similar to severe car sickness nausea rather than the nausea with a sickness bug.
Constant vomiting but no feeling of relief. A strange sort of mild headachey exhaustion. Any smell would make it worse, movement or thinking about food, hearing dh doing the dishwasher made me sick as it was associated with food !!!

I was given anti sickness medication up till birth but it just stopped the vomiting not the debilitating nausea

Honeyhonay · 16/06/2026 20:50

Depends on the person, my ‘morning’ sickness was feeling nauseous and vomiting 20+ times a day and not limited to the morning.
It wasn’t at all the ‘if I don’t eat I will be sick’ it was just being sick no matter what I did.
It lasted all through pregnancy, I was still being sick in the days leading up to labour and in the throughout labour.

DramaAlpaca · 16/06/2026 20:51

Morning all day, more like sickness for me was like feeling constantly seasick and throwing up a few times a day. I had it until 20 weeks in all my pregnancies and looking back I've no idea how I put myself through it three times, it was horrible. The babies were worth it, though.

Holdonforsummer · 16/06/2026 20:52

It feels like having a massive hangover than being made to travel in a car, driving over bumps and you’re not allowed to open the windows.

clareykb · 16/06/2026 20:53

I felt nauseous first thing and then again early eve when I finished work - would have something to eat then feel ok. Fore it felt like travel sickness I was never actually sick and had twins so double the hormones so got off lightly really.

caitipie · 16/06/2026 20:54

Thanks for the replies, so sorry so many of you had such a tough time.

I’ve had a few losses but never experienced this feeling before, so was just wondering if pregnancy related but now I’m not sure it could be classed as morning sickness. TBH I’m thinking it’s maybe more stress related due to my previous history. Both times as soon as I was sick I felt better.

can I ask at what stage your sickness started?

I feel you! I suffered with HG. Whoever called it ‘Morning’ sickness didn’t have a clue!!

Mine was this exactly!! Felt like I constant hangover and being sick didn’t help relieve the feeling of feeling sick! He was worth it but never again 🤣

Around 7 weeks in both pregnancies.

My best friend is currently 6 months and she had the same as you - she never once had any sickness but had hiccups regularly and complete loss of appetite. Not everyone gets morning sickness and some people have no symptoms at all. It really does vary person to person and what you’re experiencing doesn’t sound like sickness but it really does sound pregnancy related.

I’m sorry for your losses. Wishing you a healthy pregnancy.

Yes, similar here. 15 or more years later things associated with that time suffering with HG still make me nauseous. Certain foods, smells, music I just can't bear even thinking about to this day. The mental fog and metallic taste were hideous and nonstop.

6 weeks to birth for 3 pregnancies, virtual hell.

Congratulations though, it sounds like you'll get off lightly and hopefully blossom during pregnancy like my sisters did!

tarheelbaby · 16/06/2026 21:11

It's more accurate to call it 'pregnancy sickness' and you can feel it any time of day. It doesn't happen in every pregnancy - I had no sickness with DD1 but regular sickness with DD2.

It often happens at the same time of day, although that might not be in the morning. Drs claim they don't know why but my experience suggests low blood sugar/demand for nutrients. As long as I ate a good snack before 10am, everything was ok but others have nausea at other times in the day.

I had to psych myself up and do a pep
talk to have a second, “I can do this one more time. I can do it.” But the 3rd my DH wanted? Hell. No.

Yes! I’m Not Going to Write You a Love Song by Sara Bareilles makes me want to yack. I think I have PTSD. 😜

For me early pregnancy always involved fainting. Feeling sick from 6 weeks and got worse over a few weeks. Could not
stand the smell of food cooking . I can remember a spectacular vomit whilst a chicken roasted the smell just done it
for me.
also nausea can strike in the night. Last pregnancy we slept on toast crumbs in the bed for weeks.

For me it was one day when DH cooked sausages. I could smell it coming from the curtains and carpets for days and days. I had to ban sausages. I also had to ban DH’s spray deodorant—we had to find one that was hardly scented, and a roll on rather than a spray that went everywhere.

Thatcannotberight · 16/06/2026 21:56

Morning, noon and night sickness from 7 weeks until around 30 weeks. Eat something, vomit, drink something, vomit and repeat. I lost 2 stones in weight. I can never face weetabix again and still can't drink tea. DS is 14. OH had to cook all food and absolutely had to not smell of deodorant, vom!

BognorRegenia · 16/06/2026 23:14

I agree with PP, like a nasty hangover. Mine lasted from 6 to 16 weeks.

Thankfully it wasn't constant and there were many hours of feeling normal during those weeks.

I vomited most mornings but only small amounts.

I was also hungry but found food really unappealing. I used to spend hours watching videos of people eating delicious food on Insta but wouldn't be able to stomach plain pasta- it was the weirdest thing.

forgivingfiggy · 17/06/2026 00:40

Seasickness is the closest for me. Unrelenting. Starving but with very overwhelming food aversions.

we worked with a holistic fertility clinic expert as we struggled to conceive and I continue to see her as the pregnancy progresses. We were talking about pregnancy related sickness and she said “You get to the point where you don’t care if you live or die- you just want it to stop” and it was a relief to hear it so bluntly but honestly because it had made me feel so awful for so many weeks at that point. I did find hypnotherapy very helpful as I was starting to avoid certain places because I was so fearful of being sick yet again.

bigsoftcocks · 17/06/2026 07:45

Supplements on empty stomach - big sized capsules of vitamins- always made me feel very sick pregnant or not!

i felt mostly travel sick. Was able to eat but felt crap. I had it very easy and didn’t vomit with either of my pregnancies

good luck with it
