Gestational diabetes

Did anyone who ate a lot of sugar in their first trimester of pregnancy end up having gestational diabetes later on? My cravings for anything sweet(chocolate, ice cream, cakes etc) have been ridiculous recently and I find if I don’t give in to cravings I end up feeling nauseous😭 I’m so worried I’ll be diagnosed with GD later on though. Looking for some reassurance.

Gestational diabetes has fuck all to do with what you eat and everything to do with hormonal changes caused by the placenta.

Hope that helps.

I got GD in my third pregnancy but not my first two. My cravings were pretty consistent and nothing sweet any of the times.

It has nothing to do with what you eat.
Its not like diabetes in the sense that too much sugar will cause it. You can have gestational diabetes with a perfect diet.
Its caused tby the placenta blocking insulin and nothing you do can prevent it

Eatiang too much sugar does not cause diabetes type 1 or 2

No type of diabetes is directly caused by eating too much sugar

VioIetMoon · 11/06/2026 18:11

@bruffin Never said it directly causes diabetes but it absolutely does play a major role in developing type 2

@VioIetMoon
this is a direct quote from you

"Its not like diabetes in the sense that too much sugar will cause it. "

Ethnicity genetics and/or being overweight will cause diabetes type 2. Eating too much sugar can contribute to being overweight but eating too many calories of anything will cause someone to be overweight.

Being overweight will also contribute to a higher risk of gestestational diabetes as well as genetics and ethnicity and age
