good afternoon girls 🌸

please share your experience whatever it would be on the topic

yesterday i went to have first viability scan
ny LPM im 6w5d (ovulation was tracked vua ClearBlue LH surge test, LH surge showed peak May 4 so ovulation would be top may 5 latest)

they saw gestation sac but measuring only 9mm (more like 5w5d), yolk sac was present (4.4mm), the specialist did show me several times a tiny dot which he said was flickering, he said not heartbeat but bloodflow (!) and thats like the very beginning of the embryo

also first he said i must be earlier than 6w5d bit in report he says 6w5d (?!)

in the report however he wrote no embryo or fetal pole visualised, pregnancy of unknown viability told me to return in 14 days, he was like “all good for now no concerns!”

im of course very stressed and confused because

  1. gestational sac of 9mm is def not for 6w5d, too small, since i tracked LH surge ..
  2. whats the flickering dof with bloodstream he says beginning of embryo but then writes no embryo visualised

please share your experience on what to expect

Irrespective of the rest, the specialist said 'all good for now' which is the bit to focus on and it's the best you will get throughout your pregnancy, and especially so early. They can't and won't make promises that everything is fine. They won't say they saw an embryo if there was only the start of one.

I completely empathise with your concerns as pregnancy is a wonderful but scary time. Have faith, control the things you can e.g. not smoking etc, and focus on the positives like that little flicker and the words 'all good'.

Congrats on your pregnancy.

My experience of having similar wasn’t good news for me unfortunately. But you’ll find plenty of stories online where things have worked out for people. At this point all you can do is hope for the best. Out of interest what date did you first get a positive test? There’s always a chance you did ovulate slightly later than you thought. But if you really are 6w5 then they should really have been able to see a heartbeat at this point.

Thank you for your reply! My first positive was exactly on 1 day of missed period (i checked begore was negative) and hcg started with very low 31 but then with intervals of 48hrs was trippling (31-96-700+) what could that mean?

can you share your experience if thats not too much to ask?

It’s possible with low starting HCG you ovulated or conceived a bit later than you think. So that could account for measuring smaller. In my experience the first time I went for a scan at 6w6 days and was measuring 5w4 days. They could see foetal pole but no heartbeat. I was pretty sure on my dates (tested positive at 10dpo) so I didn’t have high hopes. I had a repeat scan 10 days later and there was no growth. I had surgical management to remove. The second time I had IVF and went for a scan at 7w2 days and they could only see a sac and yolk sac measuring 6 weeks. The clinic knew it wasn’t viable so sent me straight to EPU but they still made me wait 2 weeks to confirm. Thankfully that time I started miscarrying naturally before that so the second scan just confirmed it was all gone.
