Cephalaxin at 34 weeks pregnant

Hi ladies. Just a quick question. Has anyone had to take Cephalaxin at 34 weeks pregnant for a uti infection, and if so, what was the outcome? I know there are different antibiotics given in different trimesters. Any issues with baby when born? Did it eliminate the ecoli infection or silence it? I've read some terrible stories of babies dying from the infection during birth, or getting sepsis, meningitis, etc. It worries me so much as I have had a number of asymptomatic utis during this pregnancy already. Any info here would be greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure I did for a kidney infection, I wasn't as far on as that but definitely past 20 weeks

Are you normally prone to getting them?

HopefulMother1 · 06/06/2026 00:04

Thanks @Teaandtarot . I've heard of use earlier in pregnancy, but wanted to check for third trimester use.

No, not normally. I have no idea what my body is doing in this pregnancy- so many issues!

I took cefalexin throughout both my pregnancies- ten years apart, dc aged 14 and 24 now (!) - and had no issues whatsoever. I am on cefalexin permanently for bladder issues. Have been on it 30 years.

@Sparrowsandbudgies this is reassuring to know - thank you

Ahh ok it's definitely worth treating as if they are left they can travel to your kidneys . Sorry no it wasn't 3rd trimester

I'm only asking as there is a product called D mannose which is a great preventative, the E coli sticks to it and you just pee it out !

@Teaandtarot I was advised not to take d-mannose earlier in this pregnancy by midwife (though I know from using it years ago it was fantastic)
