Is it appropriate to use a supermarket mobility scooter while pregnant?

I’m 37+4 and struggling to get around now! But at times I do want to get out and about, is it appropriate for a heavily pregnant woman to use a mobility scooter shopping trolley they have at supermarkets etc? I’ve never seen a pregnant woman on one but I’m tempted!

Could you not do an online shop?

CassandraWebb · 05/06/2026 20:01

Of course, they are there for people who need them. If you need it you can use it
(I am a wheelchair user)

Do you have PGP or SPD? Good to keep walking normally unless you have specific reasons not to.

No. You need to keep moving. Get a trolley and lean on that.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 05/06/2026 20:05

Are you struggling to get around because of a pregnancy related medical condition? If you are healthy but just heavily pregnant you should just keep walking.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 05/06/2026 20:05

Would crutches help?

They kept me mobile during my second pregnancy. My feet got more swollen if I didn’t walk at all, either that or I had to lie flat with them elevated all the time which really wasn’t comfortable!

They’re for anyone who needs them

mumofoneAloneandwell · 05/06/2026 20:35

Absolutely fine

I had awful spd with my dd, I could've used one myself

YesAndThenAgainNo · 05/06/2026 20:35

I agree with the post above; if you don’t have any conditions that mean it’s hard to walk then being pregnant should not mean you can’t walk so please speak to your GP if you are struggling to.

Sometimeswinning · 05/06/2026 20:36

Use it! Pregnancy is rubbish. Doubt not walking around a shop for a couple of weeks will be a problem.

People don’t like women having an easy life it seems!

ToastSafeFromMothsAndDogs · 05/06/2026 20:39

I had awful SPD and needed a wheelchair for airports. Do what you need to do.

Maybe anemia?

im not sure, if I’m overdoing it at home as well but when I’m getting out and about I’m achey and just knackered and out of it x

I’d see if you can get a blood test done before birth if possibly anaemic, just so they are aware and you can take iron if needed.

Personally I’d safe myself the supermarket stress and shop online if feeling so knackered, but if it helps to get about and you don’t feel right then go for the mobility scooter

Well, you don’t want to be falling over in the supermarket, so do what you need to do to stay uninjured.

Also I wouldn’t have a problem with a post-C-section woman, or a birth injured woman, using a mobility aid either for the duration of their need.

Good luck, @Sophialemon with the birth.

Gowlett · 05/06/2026 23:51

Are you worried about another person needing it? If they have them available, then why not? I’ve never seen them at the supermarket.

politickie · 06/06/2026 00:13

They're for anyone who needs them! If pregnancy is affecting your mobility and stamina, there's no shame in using what you can to make your life a little easier.

elliejjtiny · 06/06/2026 00:43

Go for it. I was measuring 52 weeks when I was meant to be 34 weeks with my 4th, I really struggled.

cuberoot · 06/06/2026 07:46

I struggled massively in my last month as it was 35+ degrees in a hot country, my mum helped me with some tasks but at the same time we had some disagreements - by posting about them on here people called me a spoiled brat.

Do whatever makes your life easier and ignore.

MeeeowthThatsRight · 06/06/2026 07:51

If you need it, use it.
I had dizzy spells in one pregnancy and severe SPD in another. I never used them but wish I had now, always wanted a go on one.

Cakewalk7 · 06/06/2026 09:37

For sure use it if you need it! That’s what they are there for….
