Is there any risk to the baby if you have scans frequently, e.g. every one or two weeks?

According to the NHS website there are no known risks. I live abroad and the standard of care here is a scan every month at minimum and it had no ill effects on DS.

@Chocolateaddict999that’s interesting - where do you live?

I would only be having what is medically advised eg what the NHS advises. I can't see any need for weekly scans

I’m in Belgium and I saw the gynaecologist once a month and there was always a scan.

I had weekly scans in the third trimester and quite regular scans from 12 weeks. I was assured it was all fine by the NHS and no ill side effects. I had my first (internal) scan at 5.5 weeks.

MrsAppleron · 05/06/2026 20:24

Had scans weekly with DD1 from 21 weeks due to a shortening cervix, and weekly with DD2 from 14 weeks up until 24 weeks with DD2 to check on the cervix, no issues or concerns raised for having them

Panda34 · 06/06/2026 16:52

No it’s fine, I’ve had weekly scans on the nhs from 6 weeks due to previous losses

Goblinmusic · 06/06/2026 16:55

No, it's fine. Standard here to have a scan at every appointment. I see the OB monthly, and then every two weeks from 30 weeks, and they give me an ultrasound everytime.
