Worried about being out in the heat at six weeks pregnant

Hi all
I’m abit anxious and wondered if anyone can help tell me if it would cause problems or reassure me.
I’m currently 6 weeks pregnant and was a nice day today so thought to take my other 2 children to the zoo today not really realising how hot it was today which was around 26-28.C. We were out for 4 hours and i tried my best to stick to shade my mostly was in sun. I took regular breaks like every 30 mins. And sat in shade to eat and rest.
got back home and face feels really hot and have a slight headache and worried I’ve overheated out there when I was walking in the sun. And I’ve read that overheating in the first trimester can cause birth defects and I’m really scared. My pregnancy before this was a complicated pregnancy and I’m just really scared and anxious I messed up with going out there in the heat and harmed the baby in any way like the defects.
ive got an appointment next week for my anxiety so hopefully that will help but in meantime just wanted to see if anyone could help

would really appreciate any advice or reassurance

thanks

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I‘m sure your baby is totally fine.

Anxiety is horrible and I feel for you! However, there are women in far hotter countries than the UK walking around every day at all stages of pregnancy. You and your baby will be fine Flowers

LetMeStayInBed · 30/05/2026 18:36

I used to live in Greece. I had 3 summer pregnancies. Absolutely fine. Drink some water and relax. You sound very sensible I am positive you are completely ok 🩷

Heyheyitsanotherday · 30/05/2026 18:36

Kindly…. What do you think women in hot countries do? Africa for example? Your baby will be fine. Stay hydrated

ItsmeMargo · 30/05/2026 18:47

Try not to worry. Keep hydrated- no matter how hot or not it is - and I’m sure you and your baby will be fine x

ShanghaiDiva · 30/05/2026 18:49

It sounds like you were sensible in the heat and have nothing to be concerned about.

Besafeeatcake · 30/05/2026 18:52

OP take a breath. There are literally millions of babies born every year in much hotter weather.

Your baby is well protected. Stop reading rubbish, stay hydrated and try not to catastrophise.

And ones here who work in places with no air con.

Nothing to worry about. It's UK not the desert.

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 30/05/2026 18:56

People have babies in places with a climate significantly hotter than the UK…

You really need to get help for your anxiety

Esmeraldathe3rd · 30/05/2026 19:05

You absolutely will not have overheated to the extent of causing issues for your baby. Your core is the most resilient part of your body to temperature changes. For your core to reach temperatures that would harm your baby you would feel incredibly ill. Bare in mind, women in extraordinarily got countries have babies.

It's more regular extended use of hot tubs or got bath where your belly is submerged in 40+ degrees temperatures.

Your baby is tiny and so well protected.

As someone who experienced multiple miscarriages, I found it helpful to remember that woman have successfully pregnancies in tropical countries, deserts, extreme poverty war zones and places ravaged by famine. Many pregnant women work do hard physical labour for many hours a day in extremes of temperature - and they have perfectly healthy babies. Pregnancy loss or babies developing medical conditions are hugely unlikely to be anything to do with something a mother in the UK has done, assuming they are not downing huge amounts of alcohol or taking drugs. It's almost always down to genetics or the pregnancy not being viable.

PepsiBook · 30/05/2026 19:12

If you were so overheated that it could have possibly damaged your baby, you have bern hospitalised and seriously unwell. You wasn't. You were just hot.
Your baby will be fine.

DandelionClockSeeds · 30/05/2026 19:12

Baby will be fine. Have a cool drink and a bit of a rest (if possible)

mushroomfairy · 30/05/2026 19:22

My last pregnancy I spent 8 weeks in the middle east in July/August. Some days it was 53°c.

Your body is actually amazing at maintaining its core temperature.

It's common in Sweden for women to sauna all through pregnancy.

Baby will be fine x
