How far along are you? I don't think it's reccommended to be honest, for the same reasons as they suggest you avoid very hot baths.

hmmm.... im only 10 weeks

Personally I would leave it if Google doesn't turn up any answers and nobody here knows.

If you used it without checking safety and god forbid anything happened you would never forgive yourself - well, that's my attitude to most things in pregnancy tbh, if you can live without it then why risk it!

I wouldn't go overheating your belly if I were you. I even avoided very hot baths because it's not supposed to be very good for the baby.
You'd probably be fine but is it a risk worth taking?

aww that's what i suspected really...
No i wont be taking any risks i can avoid. oh well!

When I was at the early stage of my pregnancy (between about 5 and 9 weeks) my acupucturist regularly got me to lay under a heat lamp that would warm my abdomen up. This was done to support the pregnancy. In Chinese medicine, keeping that area warm is very important. It was really quite hot, but I suppose the difference is that it wasn't directly on the skin.

Sorry that doesn't really answer your question, but I thought it was interesting...

dont want to go against everybody here but in early weeks of ds i had an awful pain low down that they thought it was etpoic. gp told me to use hotwater bottle which i did everyday. Also toward the end i used one and also in labour the only place i was comfy was on the loo with hotwater bottle under bump!

Just make sure you use one with a cover or a towel between bump and bottle and dont keep it on 24/7. If you went on a beach holiday and were sunbathing, i dont think your belly would get any hotter and they dont say dont sunbathe, its just being sensible.

i googled it a bit last night, and didnt really find anything conclusive, some sites said it was fine and even recomended it, and others said dont. but the reason why they were saying not to is because of raising your core body temp to a potentially dangerous (for the baby) level. but then the others said that a hot water bottle couldnt possibly heat your whole body up like that, like a v hot bath could for example.

so i dunno! im feeling more comfortable today anyway.

I wouldn't do it either. But if the skin stretching bothering you, you could try some E45 anti itch cream. (or some other anti itch cream)
