Give me hope! 3 days over and no signs at all that he's planning on coming out...

Dear all, am 40+3 and it feels like there is no way he's coming out any time soon. Feel great, he's wriggling around happily, no Braxton Hicks, no mini contractions, he's not engaged (though is head), no tummy upset or increased cm (sorry tmi stuff that midwife warned me could be signs). Have dull period pain feeling now and again but have had this for nearly two weeks now and mw says irrelevant anyhow. Can anyone give me hope that I can feel like this and then suddenly it all gets going quickly? Or should I at least be getting some of this a few days before it all kicks off? Feel like they've made a mistake and I'm actually only seven months pregnant !

Oh you were no help at all , hope only please! Allowed to go over three weeks where I live which is just horrible I think. Am meeting m/w tomorrow so might book in a rummage (but take my hospital bag with me!). Poor you with the heatwave, was really hot here a few weeks ago for a couple weeks, I felt so terrible.

He'll come when he's good and ready. My advise would be to try to distract yourself. Don't sit around waiting for twinges and signs. A watched term pregnancy never goes into labour like a watched kettle never boils.

Mip · 22/06/2008 17:00

God I sympathise, during the heatwave here had one maxi dress to wear (legs not looking their best) and a pair of two sizes bigger than usual Birkenstocks which were all I could fit my hugely swollen feet into... was not so impressed when the heat stayed but the rain came!
Funny about your mum! Maybe I should try that. My mum's been putting off booking plane txts till baby arrives (and then she'll stay for a week) but maybe she should just come out and a few days later threaten to leave and see if he responds to that...

Oh Spidermama, I don't want to hear that . He doesn't seem remotely ready! Am sure you're right about the watched kettle though! Had been v cool up till the due date, found the 'last' week went really quickly when you always hear about it feeling like a year but then due date arrived and now every minute feels like an hour! Am going to see SATC tomorrow with friends though and have booked a facial for Tues so am trying my best!

ask your midwife to do a sweep .. not very pleasant but has always helped to hurry things along with me. And if you can then manage it have a spicy curry, sex and a hot bath! Something out of all that is bound to work!!

Mip · 22/06/2008 17:20

Thank you! But am now going to give a petulant (all I'm good for at the moment!) response... curry take out here is awful (loads of take away places round here and 90% got closed two weeks ago in a big hygiene purge... you should have seen the reasons in the paper!), UK curryhouses so much better. Heard you need loads of pineapple and I have bad heartburn (meant to ease off near end as baby's dropped down... has he not even dropped down yet!?!) and dh is scared to have sex with me in case he hurts baby. How many reassuring diagrams do I have to draw for him?!

Hi reban, thank you for your posting! You saw my sulky response to mmj's advice but a hot bath I think I can do! Haven't even had a bath at all while pregnant as I've been so scared of over heating him, so this could really hurry him out!

Will ask for mw to do a sweep, have an appointment tomorrow. Would she do it then or should I wait till a bit more overdue?

Oh mmj, forgot your nipple tweaking... can do that! Will sit in my hot bath and tweak away.

Also reban, have heard about infection from sweep. Is that not common if done right?

I'm in Sweden. Curry just isn't the same here! Might send husband out in the rain to try and find some pineapple... and the grilled chicken we're having for supper is spicy, so all I need to do is seduce him (no easy task) and then who knows!

it doesnt have to be curry .. anything spicy really will help ..chilli soup ive heard is good! Ive not heard of any infections from having a sweep as long as the midwife follows protocol it would be the same as having a show .. although as you have not posted since sunday you may not need advice anymore !!
