Weight gain in pregnancy??

id like to ask those on subsequent pregnancies are they bigger now then they were with other children? Im pregnant with dc4 and put on about 2 stone each time with other three, but lost less afterwards each time .. if you see what i mean. i always meant to lose the extra weight but never got round to it so now if i put on 2 stone again im gonna need to lose that plus the stone and half im carrying from the other pregnancies! Shall i just give up and accept that im never going to have the body if a 22 year old again or is it possible to regain my body again?

does the silence mean everyone else is debating the pounds (or stones as i have) that they put on in their pregnancies!!

probably! difficult to say but if you diet/exercise can always do something , its just that more difficult with 4 kids and a little more to lose to be able to do it. Not impossible though.. what has worked well for you before in losing weight?

reban · 24/06/2008 16:49

the best diet i ever went on was doind weight watchers after dc2 was born. I was still breast feeding so i got an extra allowance and never felt hungry. But needless to say i didnt get round to doing the same after dc3 and that weight has just stayed on. Im just scared of one day looking at myself and not quite recognising the old chubby woman looking back at me, although to be fair i do get a bit of a shock when i look in the mirror most mornings!

if weight watchers worked before I'd go with that (tbh its the thing I've heard mot often that actually does work).

Am expecting my first so need to see how it goes but that said I've stacked on weight (3st.. due any day now)

oh god I put on 4 stone .

Still got a stone to whittle off and dd is 7 months old. Still in maternity jeans [blush .

well im at 15 weeks and not put on any weight yet although i do have a huge bump already, i think that must just be the last of my stomach muscles finally giving up the ghost!
Strangley though i dont tend to put on any weight in the first 20 weeks then its two stone over the second 20 weeks, but i think im gonna have to be fairly determined when this one is born even though its gonna be xmas with all that loveley excess food about!

i put on three stone and it was such a battle to lose it. i managed to get back down to half a stone more than my pre pregnancy weight but it was sooooo hard. now i'm pg again and bit worried that i'll put on three again, and have the same problem - meaning i'll be a stone more than pre babies...which really will mean a whole new wardrobe.

artichokes · 25/06/2008 13:58

I put on 5 stone with my first pregnany . I lost 3 stone in the 48 hours surrounding labour (due to huge baby and placenta and loads of water). The next two stone came off easily while breastfeeding and by 9 months post-partum I had lost a further stone making me a stone lighter than before I conceived! I hope it comes off as easily this time but I am told it is harder with subsequent pregnancies.

Strangely I put just over 3 stone on with DD1 - finally lost the last stone just before getting pregnant this time round.

But...I've only put on about a stone and a half this time and I was due 2 days ago.

Really wierd because with DD1 I ate so healthily, loads of fruit, veg, homecooked food and obviously a chocolate bar everyday and I PILED it on - whereas with this one, I've been worried that it's only junk food I've wanted to eat, loads of fizzy drinks and crisps

I've heard a few times of women gaining less/being smaller second time round.

RosieMac · 25/06/2008 14:07

Gained two and a half stone with DD1. Only one stone with DD2. No wonder the poor child was only 6lb1oz. Breastfeeding rocks for weightloss. Rx

With my first pg i put on about 3st, was abpout 9/half st to start but afterwards the weight fell off and i went down to under 8st within a couple of months and believe it or not it was quite distressing as i thought something was wrong although all was ok

on my other pg's i have put on 2 - 2/half st and lost the weight each time, with a good healthy eating plan. I have also bf each which i think helps alot too

i'm pg with no5 now, i'm 22wks and have put on just over a stone so far. I would like to keep my weight gain to a minimum (about 2st) this time because i can't afford to buy a new wardrobe of clothes!! but i can't say i really care as long as the baby is ok, i can worry about my weight afterwards!

Jbck · 25/06/2008 14:20

Gained 15 pounds first time round, 13 with DD2, both times I lost loads very quickly & ended up lighter than before I was pg but gained it back over a few months till I was much the same as when I started. This time I said I wouldn't but I did . I've still got about 10 weeks before I go back to work so when I come back my hols I'm going to try harder. Gives me almost 2 months & I'd like to lose about a stone if I can.

jamescagney · 26/06/2008 09:21

put on four stone with dd, most of it was baby and water, took ages to get back to normal weight (didn't really try too hard just watching out for alcohol etc)
don't want to put on as much this time around as will add to flabby bits that are still around despite weight loss...

Twelvelegs · 26/06/2008 09:24

I put on six stone with dc1!!! And lost it after dc2 (14 months apart) another 4 with dc3 and lost it (nearly) agian although now I was past thirty!! This time I am gaining weight and am a little worried that it will be hard to lose as I've never really tried before so I'll have to wait and see.

Twelvelegs · 26/06/2008 09:24

PS I was six and a half to start and ended up just under eight (a much more healthy weight).

reban · 27/06/2008 09:22

yes jamescagney ive def noticed the flabby bits! I think im going to try and not put on the whole 2 stone this time (although i didnt think that was too bad) and go straight to weight watchers within a few weeks of giving birth

first of all, either way, you should probably accept you will never have the body of a 22 year old again.

but, I actually lost more weight after dd2 than after dd1 (probably because there was such a short gap between)

and i had actually gained more weight during 2nd pg.

now i am pg with number 3 so will be able to tell you after....
