Just had dd, she is 2 weeks old and beautiful, i however am not doing so well. Have had an infection down there and Im now having a lot of trouble going to the loo. As in its very painful to do a poo. TMI
With my first pg i sustained a 3rd degree tear and had similar problems but it was a lot more painful.
Does anyone think that perhaps it could be the same this time round?

Drink fruit juice, eat lots of fruit and veg and use haemmeroid cream. If not luck in the next day or two then go to the GP.

Could be an anal fissure.

Salty / tea tree oily bath and a smear of vaseline before a poo attempt.

Charlotte121,

I have had this problem.

First of all have you taken your temperature to check that you don't have a generalised infection. I did (had a v. high fever) and I was admitted by my GP and had intravenous antibiotics. They work extremely well. I would see your doctor and ask about oral antibiotics. You can take them breastfeeding. They do make the babies have greenish poo and slightly more fractious but infections seem to respond well to antibiotics.

Second try fibre gel for the constipation.
I had terrible constipation 2 weeks postpartum as a result of the infection. it does get better, it really does but if you can take a stool softer it helps. Walking also helps relieve it. If you can't go fully that might help too. Only recently have I begum to be able to empty my bowel.

I found almost standing to pee v. helful. It is just begining to resolve itself now (4 weeks post partum). Before now I couldn't empty my bladder at all and it trickled onto the wound and made things worse. Standing over the loo and tipping myself forward helped enormously.

Are there people there to help you. I slept and slept and slept after discharge from hospital. I think all I did was feed the baby. Rest will help your body recover.

Sorry for the graphic details but these tips really helped me through the infection. I hope you feel better soon.

Lots of love NS XXXX

heya newbishad, hows ur baby, we were both on the "due end on may beginning of june thread"

Have been to the doctors who have put me on antiboitics but they dont seem to be helping the toilet situation.
Have been doing the leaning forward thing to go to the loo as its the only wway i can go... im on lactulose which has softened everything up but im still in a lot of pain afterwards. I have to have a lie down everytime i go to the loo.
Havnt got anyone who can help me really, im a single mum of ds 1 and dd 2 weeks and im also looking after my mum who is ill. its a bit of a nightmare atm.
I just hate the pain im in. It was awful with the last pg but i cant for the life of me remember what i did to sort it.

I am taking senocot max strength and it's very good. It took 4-5 days to really get going, but then worked pretty well. Much better than the half-kilo bags of prunes I'd been munching on, which had no effect at all.

Charlotte121,

Baby Emily doing fine. It's me that's been the problem. How's your young one?

Yes you have a lot on there. I admire you managing all that! I don't know how I would have coped without support. You must be exhausted. Have you any brothers or sisters who could help look after your Mum. If she has a long term illness is there any support you could get from social services?

Have the antibiotics improved the infection?

The toilet problem may also be pelvic floor difficulties. Since I had the infection I was too sore to do any exercises. I was so swollen I couldn't move The hospital said my difficulties in using the toilet were probably more to do with pelvic floor than the infection itself. They recomended doing them v. gently which I have tried.

Try also declofenex...not spelt right. The hospital dished it out. It's a stronger pain killer than paracetamol (similar to ibroprofane). You'd need a prescription from a doctor but you can take it up to three times each day alongisde paracetamol.

Hope this helps and let me know how you do.

Lots of love,

NS XXXX
