I'm 24 weeks and my breasts haven't increased in size. I guess maybe minimally, but nothing enough to get new bras or anything. Everyone else seems to have this happen pretty early on. They aren't even sore. Everythign is fine with the baby but has anyone not increased in cup size and still able to breastfeed?
I'm really concerned that I won't produce enough milk or any at all at this rate! I don't have pcos or anything - no infections, nothing, just no boob growth!!

Oh dont worry

Every woman is different. There are very few women who physically cannot b/feed and it's certainly not determined by breast size.

You body will produce as much milk as you need as your baby 'demands' it. It might take 10-14 days to get a good supply going, but, thats the same for the majority of women IME so dont let it put you off.

I don't normally have any breasts to speak of. I didn't raelly get much bigger whilst pregnant. I easily fed my lovely DS (and still am at nearly 7 months). I did get bigger at first when my milk came in, but then went back to normal once supply and demand evened out.

i do have big boobs anyway, but they didn't get bigger at all during pregnancy. i had a copious over supply of milk . please don't worry.

fullmoonfiend · 21/06/2008 21:16

jeez, if breast-feeding success was determined by boob size, I'd not have suckled a gnat!!

I mananged to feed 2 huge and hungry boys, both for more than a year....

fryalot · 21/06/2008 21:17

what the others have said.

There is absolutely no reason whatsoever that small boobs won't produce tons and tons of yummy milk for the baby.

Your midwife/bfing counsellor should be able to put any of your worries to rest, don't be frightened to ask them for help.

Thanks! That's a huge relief!! It just seems like one of the first symptoms of pregnancy is sore/enlarged breasts and I never got it so was starting to worry that maybe i missed a step somewhere and maybe my body forgot that part, but I guess not! this makes me feel a lot better

squonk - when does your midwife start talking to you about bfing? I understand 24 weeks is still quite early days... is it something that they routinely discuss with patients or do I need to bring this up?

Mine stayed exactly the same size all the way through both my pregnancies and I bf-ed dd for 18 months and ds for 10 months, no problems. Honestly you'll be fine - I used to worry like you, and there really wasn't any need.

fryalot · 21/06/2008 21:31

star - I think that they generally go through all aspects of feeding when they do the parentcraft classes, but you can always ask them if you have any concerns - about anything. (well, perhaps not the best cat food to feed your new kitten on, which they might know, but they also might not know, but anything pregnancy/young baby related, they will help you with that, deffo )

star6 · 21/06/2008 21:33

when do they offer the parentcraft classes?
