36+2 is labour starting?

I seen my midwife today and she said if I was in labour I would know which I understand.

But I woke this morning at 3am, with period dull ache pains. Like I was going to come on. Tried to sleep but just got worse. Then every 10 minutes I would have a sharper cramp but it would go. I ended up getting out of bed and having a shower to see if it laid off. It didn't. I had a scan at 9am and spoke to midwife who said I wouldn't be talking to her if I was. But the pain isn't so bad I can't hold a conversation, but I was uncomfortable lying there and my friend said this is exactly how her labour started.

I'm currently in bed knackered from being up but still have this feeling down below and period pain dull ache. I haven't had it at all throughout pregnancy. I also got last few nights have had the lightening crotch!

I know only time will tell but interested to hear other experiences of how labour started for you😀

The midwife said you wouldn’t be talking to her if you were in labour??

I’d ignore that. I was able to talk to people no problem for absolutely ages. You’re not at 37 weeks yet so I’d ring the triage line and see if they want you to go in. If you were full term I’d say relax at home and see how it goes.

Yeah, she said I wouldn't be comfortable getting scanned and stuff if I was. Which I was talking but I was uncomfortable but I wanted her to get the scan done too so I didn't wanna move or interrupt. It's my first so I guess she could be right and I know time will tell but I'm in bed ATM with period dull ache and stuff still. If it continues all day I might just ring back up but I did Google t and some had the same feeling for weeks so it's really hard to tell

I think you should complain about this midwife, she shouldn’t be given out untrue advice. I’ve known many, many woman to be in early labour and in fact very dilated who are able to speak clearly and aren’t howling like a wolf in pain. My friend got sent home from hospital as a midwife looked at her, said you’re fine you’re not in that much pain. She gave birth in car on way home!

Definitely could be the start, I’d call triage personally. Although I’m 30 weeks and have been having the period cramps on and off and no labour. Sometimes it’s your body getting ready. When in doubt, triage x

Yes this happened to me and it lasted about a week, I was 4cm dilated after that week when I caved and asked for a sweep and then went into labour proper the next day. My advice is to ignore it until you can't. You will definitely know when you're in active labour.

I think what the midwife meant was that you wouldn't be talking in active labour which is true to some extent, but clumsily worded.

How are you now? I’m a midwife and in my unit, a midwife would never say that and would have sent you to LBU to be assessed and see doc

@Rodeo3456oh really? See it's really hard to know. I don't have a high pain threshold I think so I just agreed with her. But it's interesting to know you have had it since 30 weeks so maybe there's an element of truth to it same for@Renovationation91if it lasted about a week for you I hope it dilates me so I know it's doing something
@alcoholicsupportmy friend was shocked too. i still have a dull ache and pressure down below mostly when I lie down and just feel quite sick like I have a bug. My plan is to wait and see now as I am worried about wasting time traveling etc to be told it's fine. TBF to the midwife she could be right. I just said I've been up since 3am with period like pain intermittent every 10 mins I just get intense then it goes and explained the pressure. But I thought as she was scanning me she could see if anything was actually going on so felt reassured

Would you take paracetamol and get a hot water bottle and just relax for the afternoon. If it is labour starting, it will intensify so you could go in then. Obviously keep an eye on everything else. Movements from baby and waters going xxx
