Afternoon. I am 29 weeks pregnant this is the third pregnancy but has gone on the longest. At the moment I am experiencing my stomach going hard and soft in different places with no pain or discomfort. I am just a little anxious as it is the one that has gone on till this point and people make off hand comments about my bump being small. Sorry for the rambling message. Have a lovely evening.

Sounds like Braxton Hicks, which are very common at this stage, especially in later pregnancies. They can make parts of your bump feel hard and then soften again, often without pain.
Baby’s position can also change how your bump looks and feels day to day, so size comments aren’t very reliable.
If there’s no pain, bleeding, or regular tightening, it’s usually nothing to worry about, but mention it to your midwife if you’re unsure.

What you’re describing sounds like Braxton Hicks, which are very common at 29 weeks, especially in later pregnancies. They can make parts of your bump feel hard then soft again without any pain.
Baby’s position and growth patterns can also make your bump look different day to day, so comments about size aren’t a reliable indicator.

Is it going hard for seconds/few mins then soft again, in which case yes it sounds like Brixton hicks, or is it that the top of the bump is hard for a while, then the bottom of the bump goes hard for a few hours/days, then the side of the bump goes hard…….. in which case it might just be that baby is shifting themselves about and you’re feeling their head/spine in the harder bits. They can move quite far into your belly against your spine which completely changes the shape and feel of your bump, or it can be like they’re right on the surface and sticking their bum out for a bit. By the end I could see DDs feet giving me a donkey kick and protruding like something out of an alien movie.

Don’t wait until your next appointment, ring the midwifery triage at your local hospital and talk to a midwife xxx

It could be Brixton hicks or it could be premature labour. I had premature labour with my son that started a bit later and continued and stopped until he was born on his due date. However, with my third and last baby, what I thought was braxton hicks was actually contractions and she was born at 29+4, I’d recommend a trip to the hospital asap just to be sure. My third baby is a very healthy and active 7 year old now.
