Its awful.

Im only just going into the 2nd trimester and last night was horrific, it was the same as 30+ weeks in my last pregnancy.

I ended up cutting the legs of one of my pre-pregnancy 'hold everything in' all in one suit things and putting the torso part round my legs and hips to hold me together!

My back is also wrecked too.

I can't believe its this shit at 13 weeks.

Im genuinly scared ... what am I going to be like at 20 weeks, 25, 30??

have you a belt?
have you seen physio or similar? I would think the fact your back is also bad and you have got it so early may likely mean you have some physical problem which is causing it, not just hormonal
see what you can do to get it fixed

popsycal · 21/06/2008 16:33

I am 26 weeks and dont have spd but have related pelvic girdle issues and hideous back problems - I am having physio every week or so which is not doing a lot to help to be honest
sleeping is becoming a nightmare

get yourself referred to a physio - hopefully will be able to help

singyswife · 21/06/2008 16:36

Oh poor you. Deffinately go and see a physio and get the support belt etc. Well done you for working out solutions on your own though, dont tell the gp that or he will just tell you to use this on your own. I hope you get better soon. Baths help greatly (or they did with me, I was on 5 a day with dd2) as long as you have someone on standby to help you out that is.

This is one of the main reasons I decided NOT to have no 3.

Litterbug · 21/06/2008 16:51

Well I have my first physio appointment on Wednesday.

This is my 3rd pregnancy in 4 years so its not surprising really.

I completely forgot about my previous SPD when TTC, It didin't even enter my mind!

The tube thing i used lastnight helped but wasn't very comfy so Im really looking forward to getting something more 'made for SPD'

Will I get something on Wednesday from the physio?

I'm 14 weeks and suffering badly too. I'm on no.3 and it started at 8 weeks this time .

I've got the physio referral and I'm seeing her beginning of July so hopefully get a belt at least. I'm also going to start Pilates classes which i've heard can help.

I'm really scared too, by teatime (especially after a busy day) I'm just crippled by it and can do nothing but sit on the couch.

Litterbug · 21/06/2008 16:53

Im OK during the day (Well my back isn't but pelvis is)

Its only when I lie down in bed it starts

Wow 8 weeks is really early!

I started having 'niggles' at 11 weeks but never thought it would be this bad this early!

FrannyandZooey · 21/06/2008 16:53

if physio doesn't fix it I would go to chiropractor
ask for a belt straight away and use it all the time

expatinscotland · 21/06/2008 17:09

you poor souls!

so far, so good, knock on wood.

what i have is sciatica.

from HELL.

Litterbug · 21/06/2008 17:13

How far are you now expat?

Never had sciatica, though I know my mum had it with my sister and couldn't move!

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 21/06/2008 17:15

22 weeks.

it.is.sore.

pootleflump · 21/06/2008 17:43

Yes, apparently 8 weeks is the earliest it starts. It must be awful having it in bed- I know how much I need my sleep at the minute.

I don't know whether mine is spd or sciatica- midwife and doctor said sciatica so will wait and see what physio says.

Litterbug · 21/06/2008 19:37

I've been in pain ALL day with my back and I know my pelvis will start when I get to bed.

Im feeling really fed up

If there is ANY way you can afford to go to a chiropractor ( I don't think the NHS will refer - my midwife certainly didn't) who has specialised in pre/post natal care and, when you chat to them, sounds like they know what they're talking about (maybe has references from other sufferers) - GO!

I know it's not an option for everyone and as a result I feel mildly guilty for even suggesting it BUT.... I started with SPD at 24 wks (I think before really but not badly), midwife told me to put up with it. Was in constant pain and with a DD who is only now 17 months (I'm 38 wks with no 2) it was becoming a nightmare. I am convinced I would have been on some bedrest/ crutches/ wheelchair combo by now because resting just wasn't an option. As it is, after treatment with 2 chiros who really know their stuff, I barely even notice it - I do have it, I had to miss an appointment yest because was so tired and am definitely not quite as mobile as I was last week but am SO much better.

I hope you can do something - it's truly horrid and you have all my sympathy.

Evening,
I have SPD so empathise. It started at about 20 weeks, but took some mumsnetters to point out what it was when I came on hear moaning about the pain! Got referred to a physio who gave me a giant tubi grip which didn't help much, so then gave me a belt which does. They also gave me some great tips which have really helped and it's less painful now at 32 weeks than it was at 20 weeks. I guess it depends what type you have (I only have it at the front), but they really helped me. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you xx

sweetkitty · 21/06/2008 20:28

Can I join the SPD club too, third baby had it from 15, 15 and 12 weeks, am now 37 weeks and shuffling about like a 90 year old woman. I have pelvic girdle pain so have it in my bum, right hip and front so have the works. Have belt and been to physio but been told everytime she corrects the misalignment of my pelvis it just goes back as my ligaments are so soft. Was offered crutches but with a 3 and 2 yo to run after wouldn't have really worked.

And I'm lucky some poor women are in wheelchairs

Get yourself to physio or chiropracter as soon as you can.

popsycal · 22/06/2008 16:59

I am seeing am physio who specicialises in pre-and post-natal care. I presumed I had sciatica but she was able to rule that out pretty quickly. I am seeing her again on thursday and it cant come soon enough. I think I need some sort of belt thing too. I need something more than i have anyway

notcitrus · 22/06/2008 20:59

I'm 28 weeks with my first pregnancy and have had bad SPD for about 6 weeks now.
I saw an osteopath who ensured all my bone joints were in the right place, and midwife referred me to a physio very rapidly. She confirmed it's only the two joints which are most affected by hormones. I'm banned from walking more than 200 yards, and I'm OK if I stick to that. Exercises have helped a bit but the main point of them is to help me recover after birth.

Given I don't have any toddlers to run after, it's not too bad, ordering shopping online, etc. Main difficulty is sleeping - someone suggested putting a duvet under you so your hips are only digging into softness, and that's helped. I now need 2 duvets under me so by my due date it might be a bit like Princess and the Pea...

Plus lots of codeine!

I'm going to look to hire a wheelchair next week as there's a gig I really want to go to, but I'm going to have to have a wheelchair to get there. Any advice?

pootleflump · 22/06/2008 21:02

LeonieD, you have described perfectly what I have- so looks like it is sciatica then.

robino, thanks for the advice re the chiro. I'll see how I go with the physio and if that's no good I'll definitely find a chiropracter.

I mopped the kitchen floor yesterday and when I finished I couldn't walk, had to grab things for support all the way to the sofa where I was then bound for the next 2 hours. I really could do with crutches now, scary.

lalabigbird · 04/07/2008 16:24

gosh spd hurts!! i have sympathy for all you poor girls!!

I had it with my first baby and it didnt start till 28 weeks, so i thought it would be the same this time...no such luck!!

i hurt, alot and have done since i felt the first telltale twingers at about 8 weeks. im now 17 weeks and it starting to disturb my sleep.

i mentioned it to my midwife and she told me to call the local unit should my pain get bad. so i did, only to be told i should have this pain this early!!! how does she know, is she in my body... no!! so my lovely midwife is going to refer me for physio.

i also recommend those really long pillows that support everythin in your sleep, when you move in your sleep its more likely to make you keep your legs together!! thus helping with pain and waking up!!

good luck all!

TheProvincialLady · 04/07/2008 16:29

I think I have sciatica too and it is VERY painful at times. I try to sit up in the mornings and I am literally trapped in a stupid position in which any movement in any direction is really painful. I sit yowling for 5 minutes or more sometimes, with DS saying "Poor Mummy" or "Silly Mummy" depending on whether I am managing to look cheerful with it for his benefot

What does the SPD feel like, ie where is the pain? Leonie describes sciatica very well.

lalabigbird · 04/07/2008 16:58

SPD, in my opinion feels like my pubic bone is trying to force its way out of my skin!!

Its like pressure and pain all at once and if you sit in a strange way or role over in your sleep it feels as if you pelvis is gonna split in two!

i have pain on the left at the front and the right at the back!!
