We have bought a bugaboo chameleon for baby number 3. Have we done the right thing?

ive ordered one for PFB so watching with interest....

spugs · 21/06/2008 19:02

yes, i have one for dd3 and love it. havent tried pushchair yet as shes only 3 mths, only prob being that i think she would like to see whats going on but is too small for the seat unit so ive had to prop up the matteress a bit with a blanket. also all the accsessories are proving to be a bit addictive!

CarGirl · 21/06/2008 19:05

they are really fab, a bit of a pain that you have to take it apart to fold it up but wonderful to push.

4madboys · 21/06/2008 19:08

i have a frog, i got it for ds3 (who is now three and a half) and i used it everyday it has been fantastic, ds4 has just outgrown the carrycot at 3mths but is obviously too small still for the seat bit, well he fits but it is too upright for him, so i am having to use my loola as the seat lies flat for when he sleeps. i cant wait for him to be a bit older so he can go in the seat unit as i love my frog, its a breeze to push, turns on a dime and is just a great pushchair and believe me i have had and tried a lot of pushchairs.

so if the chameleon is as good as the frog then you are sorted

4madboys · 21/06/2008 19:10

oh and btw its quite unusual for a baby to grow out of the carrycot bit as early as my ds, but he was almost 11lb at birth and is VERY long, wearing 6-9 and 9-12mth clothes already i think the limit on the carrycot is 20lb and 72cm in length? which is fine for most babies

CarGirl · 21/06/2008 19:10

4madboys, if you get a wedged shape bit of foam it will flatten out the pushchair bit. Silvercross used to have them for their wayfarer pushchairs to make them suitable from birth.

Piffle · 21/06/2008 19:13

love mine too ds2 15 mths still dig it
and I'm not a pram hunny just like ease of pushing, smart mechanisms, find it no hassle to put down once you get used to it.
dream to push

scorpio1 · 21/06/2008 19:14

I love mine, the folding bit is a pita though, but thats the only bad thing i can think of.

4madboys · 21/06/2008 19:16

really cargirl, any idea where i can get one from? as that would solve my problem, i have tried him in the seat unit and even with it tipped back the recline position doesn look comfy for him, i think i know what you mean by those foam things, hmmmmmm maybe i shall have a look on ebay? i asked in john lewis where i bought the pushchair from and they were just insistent that he couldnt go in the seat unit, tho they did say it was probably suitable from 5mths at a push

CarGirl · 21/06/2008 19:19

The instructions say from 4 months for no more than a couple of hours at a time. Hmmm I've only ever seen 1 on ebay it's called a newborn wedge but you could make something quite easily - small towel folded up and a bit of foam on top?

goingslowlymad · 21/06/2008 19:23

The two piece folding really is a major PITA I found. Also the seat unit seemed too small for my 18 month old so I sold it on after 2 weeks. Her head was right up in the hood and she looked enormous in it.

I had a different one from the time she was newborn til around 9 months though and loved it. I used the carrycot part as her bed for 7 months as we live in a bungalow and just wheeled her to my bedroom.

4madboys · 21/06/2008 19:23

i will look on ebay, i really want him to be as flat as possible as he does sleep alot and depeding on what we are doing, out in town or park etc he can be in it for 2 or 3 hrs? sometimes a bit more.

CarGirl · 21/06/2008 19:24

It was slightly u shaped, so something like a rolled up towel folded in half in the very deep bit and then flat foam on top if that makes sense.

CarGirl · 21/06/2008 19:28

look up wayfarer on ebay (in pushchairs) 2 of them have the newborn wedges but not a photo of one either.

4madboys · 21/06/2008 19:52

have found a silver cross one, it was called a support cushion, but it is navy blue so wil match pushchair and looks the right shape to fit the bugaboo seat currently i am the winning bidder, fingers crossed xxx

pgwithnumber3 · 21/06/2008 20:01

You will not be disappointed - I could be a sales person for Bugaboo, I love mine that much. They are great (not particularly suitable for off-road walking though, hope you aren't thinking of using it for that!). Don't get too put off by the dismantling of it, you get used to it.

I put DD2 in the pushchair mode from 5 months but my friend has had her TINY DD in it since 12 weeks. I was a bit when I saw her in it, she looked far too small. I wanted my DD to stay in the carrycot forever!

4madboys · 21/06/2008 20:45

me too pgwith3, i think they look sooo lovely all cosy in the carrycot, i was gutted that ds4 got too long for it

and yes a twin bugaboo would be fab, tho i have to say that the bugaboo board is great i used it for ds2 when i had ds3 and now ds3 goes on it as i have ds4 and its been brilliant

slinkiemalinki · 21/06/2008 21:18

Absolutely adored mine and DD (2.1) still in it. Just invested in the buggy board as well. Agree folding is a slight pain but either coped with it fine. At 6 mts bought a maclaren for the boot and holidays but it will never, ever replace the beloved Bugaboo. I believe I have it to thank for a very articulate toddler as she still faces me and we talk as we go along!!

misdee · 21/06/2008 21:22

i loved my bugaboo with dd3. its the one i kept the longest until she actually got too tall for it, then it took me a month with it folded in the hall until i could part with it

am getting another one (second hand) for bubs this time from birth, as was very im-pressed with it the first time round.

i used to think it was an overprieced pile of tat. until i started searhing for a rearfacing buggy for a average size 1year old. and most i found too heavey, or awkward to push, or bad steering. in desperation i was in john lewis and popped dd3 into one to try. and i swore at myself as it was perfect. then went on ebay and got an ex-display one for £399. then sold it once she had outgrown it for £400! made a profit of £1 lol.

pgwithnumber3 · 21/06/2008 21:34

Misdee how lucky was that, you used a Bugaboo for what basically cost you a £1! - that must be deal of the century!

4madboys, DD2 will only be 17 months old when DC3 is born, I think she is too young to be on a buggyboard, she will still be a baby herself! Have you heard of the Babydan seats, bit like those old fashioned seats our mums used to use for toddlers on the big Silver Cross prams. I am desperate to try one out on the Bugaboo.

pgwithnumber3 · 21/06/2008 22:16

Just realised you made a £1! Even more of a bargain!

mazzystar · 21/06/2008 22:19

very happy with my frog, used with ds and dd and still gogin strong

CarGirl · 21/06/2008 22:20

I'm not 100% convinced about using a pram seat on the bugaboo carrycot, I'd def give it a try sooner rather than later!

4madboys · 21/06/2008 22:28

ooh i just looked at those babydanthings and i am not too sure that they would attach well to a bugaboo, they would probably make the carrycot tip downwards? they get a good right up on kiddicare tho? but no one says they used one on a bugaboo.

there is a thread about them on mumsnet and the one mum that used it said she didnt like it. hth xx

bogie · 21/06/2008 22:30

I love mine ds is 2.5 and still goes in it every now and again but we have a dd due inseptember so will be geting good use out of it again
