Unintentional weight loss

I know it's not a good idea to diet during pregnancy but I seem to be losing weight.

I'm 14 weeks and since I fell pregnant I've lost nearly 2.5kgs already. I'm not particularly sick but the range of foods I'm able to eat seems to be getting less and less. Fortunately it's all the unhealthy stuff I'm going off. For example because I don't drink tea now I am no longer having the cake & biscuits that would normally accompany a cuppa.

I admit I am overweight so from that point of view I'm not going to suffer but I assume as long as I eat a balanced diet the baby should be ok?

The baby will be fine, don't worry. The body has a clever way of prioritising the nutrients to your baby.

I lost 6 kgs in the first trimester, and my baby was a healthy 7 and a half pounds.

snorris, I'm now 20 weeks and have lost 13lbs since getting pregnant; this was all lost in the first trimester and my weight is holding steady since then. From the MW appointments I've had so far, bump is growing as it should so I'm not worrying and starting to feel pleased as I can also do with losing a stone or three

In my case, i'm sure a lot of it is to do with not drinking copious amounts of red wine as I was before as well as eating really healthily.

Ask your MW next time you see her, but I'm sure that everything is OK

Baby doesnt really need that much in terms of calories etc and will get all the nutrients and stuff you do have first - before you get any. If you are not eating enough its usually you who suffers not the baby.

I have had two hyperemetic pregnancies and in the first was less than a stone heavier at the very end compared to when I started. DS was 7.5 pounds and absolutely fine. This time around baby is measuring fine for dates and I am the same weight I started at 29 weeks now.

I think it has more of an impact if you were underweight to start with. I had a bit to lose so its fine that I havent put on any weight. If you think about it pregnancy can be quite healthy in that you dont drink, are off certain foods etc and its common for some people just to eat less. Some people naturally lose a bit of weight - see it as a positive thing lol!!!

I lost about a stone in my first trimester, and didn't have morning sickness at all. At 14, 21 and 25 weeks Squirmy has been a perfectly average size.

I'd put on weight in the 6 months before getting pregnant, so I guess it just needed to get diverted.

I lost a stone and a half in the first trimester due to hyperemisis. Was in hospital for much of that time and docs wern't concerned until I'd lost 10% of my body weight, which was about 1 and a half stone. So 2.5kg should be OK! Havn't had the baby yet though, but all has been OK since I stopped throwing up at 15 weeks - 28 weeks now.
