Try H & M - just got some jersey stuff from there (long line tops, stretchy skirts, jersey wrap dress). All pretty cheap, nice colours and hopefully will last till I need proper maternity stuff (all one size bigger than normal).

Now I just need to find some cotton/linen drawstring trousers - anyone? No cargos or cropped trous please

Gap do realy good long strecthy t shirts, which I am living in at 28 weeks, a size larger than usual . They don't have any in at the moment, but got some similar ones from Primark, not quite as lomg. but only £2 so I can afford to go up a size as and when,

Think Primark had some drawstring linen trousers too,

Ta, will try Primark

I actually found H&M mat trous quite snug and good for early pg

EffiePerine · 20/06/2008 13:57

that would mean venturing to Oxford street, so was putting it off until I need proper maternity stuff.

If you can get there easily (tube?) H&M in High St Kensington do maternity too and it's big but not too busy in there (I work nearby and it's been a godsend for many years, not just now I'm pg!) Gap next door also do maternity and often have a sale.

Primark Linen trousers for £8 are fab! They sit under the bump and are really comfy. You can always wear a belly band with them too. I'm still wearing my usual size 14s but that may have to change now - I'm 26 weeks and the bump is getting bigger, yay! Also, they do vest tops for £1.50 in many colours and they are quite long, so I've just bought loads of those in a bigger size and they are great for wearing under other tops/jumpers etc and covering the midriff.

To be honest, I've only really started wearing proper pregnancy things in the last month and even now am in "normal" clothes most of the time. Happy Shopping!

Hi, I'm 13 weeks with my first and just getting a little bump - and very pleased to see other people don't start getting maternity clothes yet. It just seems way too soon for that, so I'm glad others feel the same. Thanks for the H&M tip, will head into town next week I think.

Good news ladies, you'll in all probability need these bigger clothes after they are born too. No need to scrimp!

EffiePerine · 20/06/2008 17:46

Think streeeetch Zoe

and yes, you will wear them afterwards as well. Whereas you will want to burn all your maternity clothes as you are sick of the sight of them (and they make you look pg still)

i live in my 3/4 length combats from H&M with an over the bump band because they are SO SO comfy! No digging in just utter comfort. I started wearing them at about 16 weeks, im now 32 weeks! Failing that i used an elastic hair bobble on my usual bottoms to expand the waiste. All of the usual shops have tops suitable for maternity as the elastic under the boobs style is so in fashion. im still wearing them now!

Primark have an amazing stripey boob tube in at the moment, works great over the bump then with a regular T shirt over, I'm wearing it at 37 weeks! Have bought some bigger items from there and they work fine, without being too mumsy and they don't have the extortionate price tag that most maternity stuff has. Mind you, the stuff is probably made by 3 year olds in Bangladesh which is a bit crap.
