Grace or Isabella

I think it's important for names to 'scan'. I like to have a 'balanced' number of syllables and stresses. So Alison has three syllables with the stress on the first one. Hence names that would work with it are things like Jessica (which you already have, obviously), Bethany (s'one else suggested), Beatrice (ditto), Claudia, Tabitha (poss too feline!?), Margaret, Ebony, India, Eleanor, Andrea, Madeleine, Emily, etc. Names which are an 'almost echo' also work. Hence, Elizabeth (which echoes the rhythm of Alison, but has an extra syllable in front of the stressed one) sounds nice. Other words with that sort of rhythm would be names like Olivia, Penelope, etc.

Any help? Or am I the only mad person who 'scan's her kids' names????

You are not the only person who "scans" names, Ellbell. I was going to suggest Elizabeth, Margaret or Penelope too
Very sorry about your mum jessicasmummy

another thing to think about: if you're going to have Alison in the middle, be careful about the acronym the first and last names will create! happy choosing, x

(eg not BAT or HAG!)

We are doing the same thing. IF we have a girl, which we both think it is, her middle name will be margaret after my mum, who died last year. Especially as teh baby is due a couple of days before the 1st Anniversary.

We have picked a name which goes but was too worried about as no one ever calls them by their full names unless they are telling them off. We just wrote a list of all names we like and kept saying it out loud until we managed to get it down to a select few.

What about something like daisy or ruby they go quite nicely.

Only problem with a vowel-sound middle name is if DD changes her name if she gets married. My initials are now JEW, having been JES. Nice!
