Attending triage too much? *trigger warning pictures*

I am 27+3 weeks pregnant. Since last Thursday I have been in and out of the MAU with bleeding, this isn’t the first time I’ve had bleeding while pregnant but it’s by far the worst. I have a large cervical polyp and cervical ectroption. This bleeding pattern has looked like

Day 1: This bright red/pink just before bed (attended MAU)
Day 2: Browish mainly just when wiping
Day 3: Heavy gushes of bright red (attended MAU)
Day 4: Dark red/brown mainly just when wiping
Day 5: One medium side gush of red when I got up in morning, mixed with mucus (attended MAU)
Day 6: Dark red/brown mainly when wiping mixed with mucus
Day 7: Dark red/brown mainly when wiping mixed with mucus
Day 8: Red when wiping mucus like.

I had scan on Tuesday and baby boy looks perfect, he’s moving around fine too. So they are not concerned that it’s coming from the pregnancy. I asked at which point should I attend again and they said if I had reduced movements/it’s watery and flowing. When can I expect this to stop? At which point would you say it’s gone on for too long and I should probably attend again? I’m not as worried as I was but definitely feeling on edge
Anyone had this before? What would you do?

As someone who followed advice by the hostipal midwife team and stayed away and regretted it, just go. It’s their job to check on you.

EBITDAisMyHappyPlace · 16/04/2026 15:55

Seriously just go every time you worried, the amount we hear about failures in maternity services it’s not worth risking it by not getting checked out

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 16/04/2026 15:56

You need to go in every time @Catlady1991

Catlady1991 · 16/04/2026 15:58

It’s been continuous since last Thursday. It’s not a new episode.

Go every single time. This is your baby, you need to advocate for them. If they're totally fine every single time then great.

FeelingSadToday1 · 16/04/2026 16:25

That looks very Mucousy. Has it always looked like that? I am a midwife and if somebody showed me that I would assume it was their mucous plug.

When I’m triage have they done speculum examinations?

I would definitely go in OP.

Hi, yes it’s looked like that since last week. I’ve had a speculum exam all 3 times and everytime they say that:

My cervix are closed, there is no active bleeding currently, that I’ve got a large polyp on my cervix that looks aggravated and I have very red/sore looking cervix (cervical ectropion).

I am at a loss of what to do, on one hand I don’t want to go and be told it’s the same thing again but on another I’m questioning how long this will go on for? It’s day 8 now, I’m really frustrated x

Please go in. Have they done a cervical length scan? It really isn't worth any risk but I completely appreciate keep going in must be a pain.

The mucous would concern me more than the fresh blood.

IeatPotNoodles · 16/04/2026 18:20

Definitely go

raisinglittlepeople12 · 16/04/2026 18:48

it’ll likely be the polyp that’s been bleeding. You should go in every time there’s heavy bleeding imo

Thank you! No I haven’t had a cervical length scan.

It sounds silly but I’ve also work for NHS (ambulance service) and I don’t want to be labelled as that “oh she’s back again” person

They tell me to rest, I’ve pretty much done nothing this past week except sit on the sofa and worked from home and I popped to Sainsburys to grab a couple of bits earlier. I can’t rest anymore if I tried

I think you should go in every time you have concerns, but with the expectation that there is little they can do to treat the bleeding but that they can check it isn't connected with the pregnancy.
Maybe ask them - are they happy to continue checking you every couple of days for the next 3 months, or is there someone they could refer you to to investigate your polyp further?

theotherfossilsister · 16/04/2026 19:08

Go in. Always, they’d rather see 1000 people who are ok than miss one they can save from loss.

FeelingSadToday1 · 16/04/2026 19:34

OP don’t worry about being ‘that person’. I promise, as a midwife, we wouldn’t think like that at all in your situation. I’d rather you come every day for the next 3 months and have a healthy baby rather than the alternative.

TeenLifeMum · 16/04/2026 19:37

Every time you are concerned, call the maternity triage number. Ask them what’s okay and what triggers you calling and use that advice. They are there however much you need them.

Edited

Please go❤️

At one point I was definitely the here she is again expectant mum, but I knew something wasn’t right and refused to leave until I’d have a proper checking over. Baby was delivered hours later.

Catlady1991 · 17/04/2026 01:49

UPDATE

I have been to triage, after all the usual testing I saw a consultant. she couldn’t see a polyp but I do have quite a bad cervical ectroption. So she is giving me an urgent referral to the colposcopy clinic so someone can have a proper look at my cervix. She said they will treat the etropion with silver nitrate which will hopefully stop the bleeding, if not they will look for other causes and it may mean that the bleeding is coming from further up. Which would need a lot more monitoring.

Thanks for all your advice ladies. I’m glad I went, I couldn’t continue on like that indefinitely.

I’m so glad you went and that the consultant listened and was helpful.

Have they done any ultrasounds to see if there is any bleeding within the uterus?

It must be very worrying for you. I hope colposcopy clinic can help you x

GlovedhandsCecilia · 17/04/2026 08:04

I'd be going and staying in

I had an ultrasound on Tuesday, apparently everything looked great and there was no sign of it coming from the pregnancy.

As someone who didn’t go and then had a horrific birth you need to get over the fear of any judgment.
