I went for a private scan today and we were told we are having a boy. I’m just nervous as I’ve heard so many people saying their scans were wrong, cords were mistaken for genitalia and swollen female parts.

We already have a little girl, and I was convinced this baby was a girl also (so sick, lots of spots when I usually have clear skin).

We won’t be having anymore children, but not sure whether I should start donating my little girls clothes and start buying boys or if I will later be told it’s another girl!

Thats definitely a boy!! Congratulations as a boy mom you're going to be amazed at how much they really do steal your heart. Im sure your daughter did, but boys are totally different. Theyre all for their mums! My boys 5 month old and only wants me, he will scream at dad until i take him and then look at dad and do the cheekiest giggle🤣

Best thing ever being a boy mum!💙

We had private NIPT testing done, which is more accurate than a scan for fetal sex determination -over 99% as it checks for Y chromosomes in the mother's blood. Definitely get it done if accuracy is important to you.

It’s very clearly a bay boy congratulations. I’d seek some support as to why you’re feeling this way. It’s ok to admit if you’re slightly disappointed with the gender, I was girl, boy. I’ll admit it was a little sad but happy too. I genuinely don’t know why. Then I realised part of me wanted a girl too, even tho I did want a boy. It’s ok to feel mixed emotion. Enjoy preparing for that baby boy, who is very clearly a baby boy xxx

That’s definitely a boy scan. I had a boy after 2 girls and his scan looked like that.

Congratulations! Keep whichever clothes you’d like to put him in. My boy has worn some “girly” things and he literally couldn’t care less. He’s only 2.

Mum of three girls. That's a boy.

NHS Grampian won't tell you at a anomaly scan or any other. Not due to high abortion rates but because a couple tried to sue for getting it wrong.
Only way is to pay for a private scan.

Our trust was the same, for the same reason.

Helpwithdivorce · 16/04/2026 07:02

There is no doubt at all from those images that this is a boy.

LemonSorbetCone · 16/04/2026 07:05

Op that does look like a boy! Congrats!!

Zanatdy · 16/04/2026 07:14

Why does that image make you think its not a boy? A girl does not look like that. It’s a boy.

Really? Why? And where? Always was asked would you like to know gender and everyone i know has had similar

As others have already said various reasons but also in the trust I worked in they realised that spending extra time trying to get baby into the right position to be able to see the genitalia was taking up precious scan time and as they were already struggling to keep up with demand and a shortage of sonographers they decided to stop offering this option.

It depends on the area. My DS is 20 yo now, but we were in London when he was born and I heard some hospitals in London didn’t reveal the sex of the baby as there are some ethnicities who would abort girls.

Goatymum · 17/04/2026 11:08

It Was policy not to be told the sex at 20 weeks when I had DC in the early 2000s so all clothes & nursery were neutral. Once DC were born I then bought some boy/girl clothes, although DS did wear a few of DD cast offs (not dresses!).
I thought DD would be a boy as she had a health issue that is much more prevalent in boys.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 17/04/2026 11:13

My trust would tell you but wouldn't write it down or allow it to be recorded.

Friends in some trusts were told, one in birmingham and one in london were not as trust wouldn't for cultural reasons (abortions of girls). Regretfully that is very much a thing.

Yeah a london one as well

Hoping you get your baby boy but more important that he’s healthy.

Hold up! You're telling me people are still aborting because of gender WTF?!
