I am 17 weeks pregnant after a miscarraige in Jan this year. Am worried about everything this pregnancy, just as I start to feel the anxiety go about one thing I am worring about the next, my new thing being slap cheek!

Ds1 has really red cheeks, not unwell in any other way, he is nearly 3 and has finished teething so can't be that. I am feeling a bit flushed and bad back and neck ache. Am I just worring about nothing, would we know if it is slap cheek. Going on hols tomorrow and just don't want to be worring!

can you get yourself along to the docs? I'm sure they won't mind seeing you if you're concerned and after your m/c and everything.

actually, having just read up on slap cheeck in pregnancy, if I were you, I'd go and get checked out, especially as you are going away on holiday tomorrow.

hope you're ok
xx

I think you should go see your doc. Slap cheek is going around at the moment.

mower, how are you?

wearymum200 · 20/06/2008 08:40

Hope you're OK. Slapped cheek is common, but most women will have had it as children themselves, so will be immune. If you had booking bloods from your MW, they can get them tested for immunity.
Even if you get active infection, 90% of pregnancies are completely unaffected.
I'd talk to your GP/ MW.

I think the high risk of MC is if you catch in the first trimester. Anyway you can get a blood test to see if you have been exposed. Hope all is well

Mower - I'm 24 weeks prgnant and awaiting the results of blood tests because it's possible my dd2 had slapped cheek, and then I became ill. I have tried not to google anything about it, just asked my GP for a blood test! I get the results today. I've also had previous miscarriages so it does make you extra anxious.

really dont want toworry you but i would say it does sound like you and your son both have it. in children it is usually really mild and you only really notice the red cheeks. i had it at 8wks pregnant and had very similar symptoms to what you describe- infact i just put it down to early pregnancy symptoms.
BUT... have been under consultant care and been scanned regularly and everything is fine, if you have got it the chances of it affecting the baby are small, and then they can give the baby transfusions in the womb. the danger comes when people contract it and dont know and therefore dont get checked out. good luck sure you will be fine xx
